HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-08-06 MinutesMINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF FIREMEN'S PENSION & RELIEF BOARD OF TRUSTEES • The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Firemen's Pension & Relief Fund of Fayetteville, Arkansas, was held in the City Clerk's Office on Monday, August 6, 1962, at 4:45 P. M. Present: Fire Chief Burl Skelton, Secretary George J. Davis, and Board Members: Frank Johnson, Bill Morris, Arthur Caselman, and Doyle Morrison. Absent: Chairman Mayor Guy E. Brown, and treasurer Roy Nix. In the absence of Mayor Guy E. Brown, Fire Chief Burl Skelton acted as Chairman Pro Tpm. The minutes of the regular meeting on Monday, July 2, 1962, and of the special meeting on Monday, July 9, 1962, were read and approved. The Secretary presented the authorization form to pay the July pensions. Mr. Morrison moved that the disbursements be allowed. The motion was seconded by Mr. Johnson and upon roll call the following vote was recorded: "Aye" Skelton, Johnson, Morris, Caselman, and Morrison. "Nay" None. There being five "Ayes" and no "Nays') -;the Chairman Pro Tem declared the motion passed. Fire Chief Skelton reported that representatives from the Fayetteville Fire Department had attended the Arkansas State Firemen's Association Convention at Russellville, Arkansas, andthat the following legislation was discussed pertaining to legislation by the General Assembly of Arkansas in 1963 with respect to the Firemen of the State of Arkansas: • 1. Blanket membership in International Fire Fighters Association which is Union but was rejected with the help of the delegates from the Fayetteville Fire Department, 2. The Fayetteville Delegates also opposed a proposed Three Platoon System as recommended by some of the delegates from other Fire Departments, which would have resulted in an increase of employees. This was rejected. 3. The Fayetteville Delegates also opposed a proposed $300.00 per month minimum wage scale and a 56 hour week as recommended but which was referred to the Legislative Committee, 4. The Fayetteville Delegation also opposed a compulsory insurance on firefighting equipment. This was also referred to the Legislative Committee, 5. The Fayetteville Delegation also supported an increase in Volunteer Retirement Pay. 6. The Fayetteville Delegation proposed by resolution that h rein of the State of Arkansas support the proposed Arkansas State Constitutio No. 50. This resolution was passed with little opposition. 7. The Fayetteville Delegation helped defeat proposed legislation to create new Civil Service Laws whereby Full-time paid Firemen would be divided from Volunteer part-time paid firemen. There being no further business, NIr. Caselman moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Mr. Morrison and passed unanimously, whereupon the Chairman Pro Tem declared the • meeting adjo ed.
