RE: 3380 N. FUTRALL DR.-NORTH PARK PLACE
Matt Bodishbaugh, Chairman, has called a meeting for Tuesday, January 4, 2000, 3 :00 P.M., at
113 W. Mountain St., City Administration Building, Room 111 , to hear the appeal of Wischmeyer
Architects, Don Moberly , Architect, appealing the technical provisions of the 1997 Standard
Building Code.
Attached you will find the following:
1 . Meeting agenda,
2. Current membership listing,
3 . Minutes of Board meeting of November 15, 1999,
4. Completed Appeal form with explanation of appeal, and
5 . Related 1997 Standard Building Code sections and tables.
The appellant is asking for a variance of the code requirement of one hour rated corridors for exit
access corridors of 30 occupants or more in a business occupancy. Additional exit doors for
egress is offered as a trade-off.
The 1991 and now the 1997 code has been interpreted to require one hour corridors for a
business occupancy tenant space with 3,000 square feet or more with little deviation. Historically,
a building with a center core of offices surrounded by a clearly defined corridor and offices similar
to the design of the appellants required one hour rated exit access corridors.
Even though building officials may have different interpretation, the SBC code officials suggests
that every corridor must provide exit for every occupant. Therefore, exit access corridors would
have to be provided for 147 occupants.
A fully sprinklered building relieves the requirement of the exit access corridors one hour rating,
20 minute rated doors with closures, and limited glass.
• A fully sprinklered building, even with a change to Type VI with unprotected construction, would
conform to code. cbaal-00
