MEMBERS PRESENT: Neal Albright, chairman; Jim Hill, Fred Sherman, and Mike Parsley. Lonnie Meadows was absent. OTHERS PRESENT: Danny Hudson, applicant; Freeman Wood, Inspection Superintendent; and Rosilee Mugley, Senior Permit Clerk. The meeting was called to order at 1:55 p.m. by Neal Albright, chairman. A variance was submitted by Danny Hudson to be able to use lumber for a new house located on lot 13, block 2, Timbercrest subdivision, hwy. 45 east. The lumber would be cut from property owned by Danny Hudson in Newton County. The lumber would be kiln dried before use. Owner plans to occupy the house himself. Mr. Albright asked Mr. Wood to interpret the building code in this situation. Mr. Wood explained that the building code requires that all lumber be stamped with an approved grade stamp but added that he had no objections to the variance as long as the lumber was kiln dried and that the owner did not plan to sell the house but use it as his own personal home. Mr. Hudson was asked why he wanted to cut his own timber. He stated both his father and uncle were in the timber business and they would be cutting the timber but they would have to hire someone to kiln dry the lumber. Mr. Hudson stated it was more economically feasible for him to cut his own lumber. After some discussion on the various grade stamps, Jim Hill made the motion that the variance be granted with the stipulation that a letter be attached to the abstract stating that Mr. Hudson cut and used his own timber and the lumber would be kiln dried and meet the appropriate dimensions. The stipulation also states that Mr. Hudson planned to occupy the home himself. Fred Sherman seconded the motion. Mr. Albright called for a vote. The vote passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 2:01 p.m. TO: BOARD OF CONSTRUCTION APPEALS MEMBERS FROM: CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ROSILEE MUGLEY, SENIOR INSPECTION CLERK DATE: JUNE 16, 1992 RE: APPEALS MEETING There will be a Construction Board of Appeals meeting Tuesday, June 23, 1992 at 1:30 p.m. in room 111 at the City Administration Building.
