PRESENT: Alderman Reynolds, Thiel, Marr, Rhoads, Davis, Lucas, Jordan, Mayor Coody, City Attorney Kit Williams, City Clerk Sondra Smith, Staff, Press, and Audience ABSENT: Alderman Cook NEW BUSINESS: West Mud Creek Multi -Use Trail/Sweetser Construction Contract: A resolution awarding a construction contract to Sweetser Construction in the amount of $426,936.03 to build the West Mud Creek Multi -Use Trail; and approving a 15% project contingency of $64,040.00. Mayor Coody: On this one item of business we have before us, the reason we want to bring this for special consideration today was because if we included this today it would put us a week ahead in the construction schedule and we wanted to get as far along with the road as we could on this project before the rainy season sets in and a week will certainly help. A little bit of background on this, this project started in the late 90's, the City at the time hired an engineer here in town to do about $98,000 worth of engineering work to engineer a trail about one mile long, West Mud Creek Trail, it was over engineered to the point you could drive a semi -truck on it, so we severed the relationship with the engineer and did the redesign in-house and that brought the bid amount down from $1.15 million to $426,000 and that is an enormous savings. I appreciate the work that our staff has done on it, Mr. Hatfield, Connie, the Engineering Department all worked together on this to do a good in-house job saving almost $700,000. I think this is a good example of how we need to be very careful about the work that we sub out and make sure we do as much in-house work as we can. Alderman Thiel. I am just real pleased about it and glad we got it to where we can do it. Good job. Mayor Coody: There was no way that I was going to do a million dollar contract for a mile trail. Mayor Coody: Shall the resolution pass. Upon roll call the resolution passed 7-0. Alderman Cook was absent. Resolution 118-03 As Recorded In The Office Of The City Clerk Meeting adjourned at 4:55 PM. nat., Oa, Sondra Smith City Clerk
