A special meeting of the Fayetteville City Council will be held on August 12, 2003 at 4:30 p.m. in
Room 326 of the City Administration Building located at 113 West Mountain Street, Fayetteville,
Arkansas.
A. NEW BUSINESS:
1 . West Mud Creek Multi-Use Trail/Sweetser Construction Contract: A resolution
awarding a construction contract to Sweetser Construction in the amount of $426,936.03
to build the West Mud Creek Multi-Use Trail; and approving a 15% project contingency
of $64,040.00.

SUBJECT: Special City Council Meeting for West Mud Creek Trail Construction
Contract.
Background
West Mud Creek Trail when completed will follow West Mud Creek from Front Street to Stcele
Blvd. It will connect to the East Mud Creek Trail, via the Lindsey Trail. This Project was bid
last fall and the bids all came in over budget. This project has been redesigned by City staff and
is anticipated to give the City a substantially lower bid than the previous design.
Current Status
The West Mud Creek Trail Project bids are to be opened on August 6'h, 2003. One component of
the anticipated reduction in cost is the reduction of sub-grade stabilization. We will be able to
minimize this cost if the trail is constructed during the dry season.
Recommendation
I would like to bring this contract to the City Council at a special City Council Meeting on
August 12th, 2003, during the regular agenda session. It is crucial to save every day we can and
construct this trail during the optimum construction period.
Other Trail Projects
The design of Center Prairie Trail is well under way with an anticipated construction bidding
date of September, 2003. This project may be phased in order to complete the section that we
currently have ownership.
In order to utilize City owned property we are going to bid out the construction of several trails
as a combined project and bring a construction contract to the September 2nd City Council
meeting. They are Combs Park Trail, Walker Park Trail and Walker Senior Center trail. These
projects will have a combined length of approximately 8,500 linear feet.
The Fayetteville Alternative Transportation and Trail Master Plan has been approved by the
Sidewalk and Trails Task Force and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. It will be going
before the Planning Commission at the next available meeting and then directly to the City
Council for adoption. A copy of the Plan is available at www.accessfayetteville.oro
