V MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY BOARD OF DIRECTORS

A special meeting of the Fayetteville City Board. of Directors was
held on Monday, July 20, 1987 at 5:00 p.m. in Room 313 of City
Hall, 113 West Mountain Street, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
PRESENT: Mayor Johnson; Directors Bumpass, Lancaster,
Martin, Kelley, Marinoni and Hess; Acting City
Manager Linebaugh, City Clerk Kennedy, members of
the press and audience.
208.1 The meeting was called to order by the Mayor at about 5:20 p.m.,
with six Directors present (Director Hess arriving during the
executive session).
208.2 Director Martin, seconded by Marinoni, moved the Board go into
executive session to consider applicants for City Manager. Upon
roll call the motion passed, 6-0, Director Hess being absent.
208.3 The Board met in executive session from about 5:25 p.m. to about
6:15 p.m., at which time the meeting reconvened.
208.4 Director Bumpass announced that the Board had narrowed the list
of applicants substantially. Bumpass moved that the following
individuals be brought to Fayetteville for a personal interview
111 for the position of City Manager: David H. Doty, Joseph S.
Minner, John M. Bramble, Kenneth Thompson and James Pennington.
Bumpass said interviews would take place during the week of
August 3rd through 7th. The motion was seconded by Hess and,
upon roll call, passed, 7-0.
208.5 Director Johnson said she would contact the applicants and
schedule one interview per day. Johnson said the Board tour that
week would be cancelled. Johnson said information about the City
of Fayetteville would be sent to the applicants.
208.6 Director Martin said that after the interviews, someone would be
available to provide a tour of the City.
208.7 The Mayor asked the Directors if they wished her to send "thank
you" letters to other applicants in the top 20. It was the
consensus this should be done.
208.9 In answer to a question from a reporter, the Mayor said the new
City Manager would be announced on August 18 and on board on
September 1, unless negotiations can be made sooner than that
time.
208.10 The meeting was adjourned at about 6:20 p.m.
