The Board of Directors of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, met in regular session on Monday, November 20, 1967, in the Directors Room in the City Administration Building at 7:30 P. M. T. J. Keith, Trews Present: City Manager Gerald G. Fox,.City Clerk George J. Lavis, City Attorney Hugh Kincaid, and Diaectorso Reporter, N. W. Times Kerlin, Swartz, McFerran, Melton, Christie, Trumbo, and Dunn. ' also present. Absent: None. The minutes of the regular meeting on Monday, November 6, 1967, were approved as written. (A copy of the minutes had previously been mailed to each of the Directors). Service di Resolution No. 17-67 1 CITY Manager's salary for J1968 At the last regular meeting of the Board of Directors, the City Manager presented an Administrative Memo (No. 81, which was,spread on the minutes at page.209, Book H, Council Procedure) which explained a proposal of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. to extend area telephone service i.e. direct sefvice to Springdale by local calls instead of long distance. Action was tabled on this proposal until this date in order to make a better study and to receive the views of the customers, since it would of necessity, cause an increase in the monthly telephone rates. After a'very long discussion, the City Manager introduced and, at the request of the Mayor, read a iroposed resolution in its entirety entitled, "A RESOLUTION REQUESTING PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION APPROVAL iF THE RATES TO BE CHARGED FOR TELEPHONE SERVICE AT FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS, THE SERVICE TO BE RENDERED, .ND FOR OTHER PURPOSES" I I . .iter another long discussion, Director Melton moved that the Resolution be adopted. 'he motion was seconded by Directoi: Christie and upon roll call the following vote was recorded: "Aye" :erlin, Melton, Trumbo3 and Dunn. 'Nay" Swartz, McFerran, and Christie. 'here being a majority of Four "Ayes" and only Three "Nays", the Mayor declared the Resolution adopted. RESOLUTION N0, 17-67 RESOLUTION REQUESTING -PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION APPROVAL OF THE RATES TO BE CHARGED FOR TELEPHONE RVICE AT FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS;, THE SERVICE TO BE RENDERED, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS, AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, there is a distinct community of interest between Fayetteville and Springdale, Arkansas: WHEREAS, there is a need for direct calling between all customers in Fayetteville and Springdale thout the payment of long distance charges (such service being commonly referred to as extended area rvice); and WHEREAS, Southwestern Bell Telephome Company is willing, as soon as feasible to provide such service; and . WHEREAS, THE value of telephone service will be 6breased to Southwestern Bell Telephone company's Fayetteville upon provision of such extended area service; and ifflEREAS, such extended area service -cannot be rendered at the rates now charged.attFi7etteville: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: THAT, the Arkansas Public Service Sommission be requested to permitschedules of increased rates to e effective, following proper filling be Southwestern Bell Telephone `company, upon provision of ext service between Fayetteville and.Springdale.
