Tax Levy for 1961 f The �'ity Council of Fayetteville, Arkansas,met in regular session on Wednesdays Novembe B. 1961, at 7:30 P. M. Present: Mayor Guy E. Brown, City Clerk George J. Davis, City Controller Albert J. Jones, City Attorney Bass.T�tumHbjsCity Engineer W. C. Smith, Chief of Police Pearl Watts, and Aldermen: Walker, Christie, Hatfield Thomas, Smith, and Short. Absent: Fire Chief Burl Skelton and Alderman Ellis Burgin. The minutes of the regular meeting on konday, October 23'. 1961, a copy of which had previously mailed to each of the Aldermen, were approved.. Alderman Smith"introduced a proposed ordinance providing for a new Dog Leash Law. Alderman -Walker immediately moved that this be referred to the Ordinance Committee for further study. The motion was seconded by Alderman Hatfield uponprolldeall the -following vote was recorded: "Aye" Walker Christie, Hatfield 'arid Short. "Nay" -Thomas and Smith. There being four "Ayes" and only two "Naysr's the Mayor declared the motion passed. The City Clerk presented a petition signed by the property owners adjoining University Avenue between Ellis Avenue and Van Buren"Avenue requesting that University Avenue between Ellis Avenue and -Van Buren Avenue, which had never been opened, be vacated or if the City -would not vacate said street, then open and maintain if"possible. This petition had been presented to'the Planning Commission and rejected because of the long distance in the block between the two Avenues, they believed the street should not be vacated. Alderman Thomas moved to accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission and not vacate University Avenue between Ellis Avenue and Van Buren Avenue.' The motion was seconded by Alderman Hatfield and passed unanimously. Alderman Thomas reported that it was necessary to hire the auditors to audit the City books for 1961 at thistime. After a brief discussion, Alderman Thomas moved that the City employ Myers, Scarbrough, and Baker to make -the 1961 City Audit as they have been doing for the past several years. The motion was seconded by Alderman Walker and passed unanimously. Alderman Thomas reported that it was necessary to vote the 1961 tax levy -at this time order to get it before the Quorum Court on the Second Monday in December, and the Fin Committee recommended the levying of 14 Mills for 1961 which would be anelincrease of One Half Mill over the year of 1960. After a long discussion as to the allocation of the tax funds, Alderman Smith moved to accept the recommendation of the Finance Committee and set the tax levy for 1961 at 14.0 mills to be distributed as follows: Identifioation Mills General Fund --------------------------------- 560 Fire Protection ---=---------------------------- 3:7 General Obligation Bond Issue of 1959 ------ 3:5' Police Pension Fund --------------------=------- :5 Fire Pension Fund ----------------------------- :5 Park Maintenance Fund -------------------------- :5 Hospital Maintenance Fund ---------------------- :3 Total ------------- ills The motion was seconded by Alderman Walker and upon roll call the following vote was recorded: "Aye" Walker, Thomas, and Smith. "Nay" Christie, Hatfield, and Short.
