HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-10-12 Minutes439 The City Council of Fayetteville, Arkansas, met in regular session on Monday, October 12 • Regular 1959, at 7:30 P. M. Meeting. Present: Mayor J. Austin Parish, City Clerk George J. Davis, City Controller Albert J. 'Jones, City Attorney A. D. McAllister Jr., City Engineer W. C. Smith, Chief of Police Pearl Watts, Fire Chief Burl Skelton, and Aldermen: Barnhart, Smith, Burgin, Lunsford, Hatfield, Kent, and Walker. bsent: Alderman J. E. McClelland. The minutes of the regular meeting on Monday, September 28, 1959, and of the special session on Tuesday, October 6, 1959, were read and approved. Amend Mr. J. S. Hinton appeared before the Council with a request that the Council amend the Lease lease agreement for:: the Off -Street Parking Lot on West Dickson Street by deleting Agreement with Section 7 of said lease agreement. J. S. Hinton. After a brief discussion, Alderman Walker moved to amend the lease agreement heretofore `entered into with Mr. & Mrs. J. 9•. Hinton so as to delete therefrom the provision pro- hibiting assignment of said lease agreement without the prior written consent of the arties thereto. he motion was seconded by Alderman Burgin and passed unanimously. To drain Mr. Bruce/Crawford,of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission,and Game Waeden Paul Baxter Lake Wilson appeared before the Council and recommended the draining,.removing best fish to Lake Restock, etc. Sequoyah, cleaning, and restocking of Lake Wilson. After a long discussion, Alderman Walker moved that Lake Wilson be declared no longer a source of water supply for the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas,. and that the City of Fayetteville cooperate with the Arkansas State Game & Fish Commission to drain Lake Wilson, remove best fish to Lake Sequoyah, clean lake, and restock according to the recommendation of the Arkansas State Game & Fish Commission, The motion was seconded by Alderman Hatfield and passed unanimously. Refund. The Mayor reported that he had a request from the Fair Association for the City be refu $3600 to the $300.00 which they had used for a permit for the carnival for the Washington County Fair As6oc. Fair, Alderman Walker moved that the City refund the $300.00 to the Fair Association which they had used to purchase a permit for the carnival at the Fair. The motion was seconded by Alderman Burgin and passed unanimously. Proposed Tax Levy Alderman Kent moved that the City of Fayetteville's Tax Levy for 1959•be set at ten(10) for I mills with no provision for the 1947 Fire and Hospital Bond Issue to be proportioned as 1959* `follows: Purpose Mills General Government 5.0 Fire Protection 3.5 Police Pension and Relief .5 Fire Pension and Relief .5 Park Maintenance .4 Hospital Maintenance .1 Total 10.0 Alderman Kent further moved that in the event the Airport and Library proposals, to be voted on at the General Election on November 3, 1959, are defeated, the City of Fayetteville's Tax Levy for 1959 shall be eleven(ll) mills. The motion was seconded by Alderman Hatfield and passed unanimously. Police (Alderman Burgin read a resolution from the Fayetteville City Police requesting a five request day working week for the City Policemen. 5 day week. After a brief discussion, Alderman Lunsford moved to re€ir this to the Police Committee, Finance Committee, Chief of Police, and City Controller,:for:study and'recommendation. (The motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and;pals ed unanimously, The City Building Inspector reported that the Plumbers Inspection School and Convention Plumbers After ould be held in Little .Rock on November 6 and 7 and he recommended.that both of his Inspection ssistants be permitted to•attend with expenses paid by the City. School. a brief discussion, A derma Walker moved that the City Building Inspector and both of his assistants betto attend the Plumbers Ins e o School and Conven- tion in Little Rock, Arkansas, on November 6 and 7, 1959, with xpe es to be paid by the City of Fayetteville. The motion was seconded by Alderman Lunsford and passed unanimously. DancoConst. The City Controller presented two estimate costs due the Dancd Construction Co. on. Co. I Contract No. 1 of the 1958 Water & Sewer Expansion Project which were as follows: Paid partial $6,642.16 Ordinance 1166 Construction Fund. payment. 5 403.40 Public Works Fund Total Alderman Hatfield moved to appropriate money from the Public Funds and authorize payment of the two estimates quoted above. The motion was seconded by Alderman Walker and passed unanimously. There being no further business, Alderman Walker moved to adjourn.
