HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-03-02 Minutes37-7 The City Council of Fayetteville, Arkansas, met in regular session on Monday, March 2, • 119599 at 7:30 P. M. P(Present& Mayor J. Austin Parish, City Clerk George J. Davis, City Controller Albert J. Jones, City Attorney A. D. McAllister Jr., City Engineer W. C. Smith, 6hief of Police Pearl Watts, Fire Chief Burl Skelton, and Aldermen:'Ralph Barnhart, Herbert Hatfield, Dale Kent, and Bryan Walker. .Absents Aldermen Lynn Smith, Ellis Burgin, Bruce.Lunsford, and J. E. McClelland. It was noted that a quorum was not present but the Mayor reported that Alderman McClel ,would be present later in the evening. The Council then held an informal session until Alderman McClelland arrived. The minutes of the regular session on Monday, February 16, 1959, were read and approved. Col LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Beginning at a point which its 594.0 feet North of the SE corner of t. SW4 of the NW4 of Section 179 Township 16 North, Range 30 West of the 5th Principal Meridian in Washington County, Arkansas; said point being on the East line of said S* of the NW -14; thence West and parallel to the South line of said SW4 of the NW -41 of said Section 17, 266.8 feet more or less; thence South parallel to the East line of said SW -41 of the NW,4 105 feet;. thence West and parallettothe South line bf said SW9 of the NW' 270 feet; thence North and parallel to the East line of the SWI. of the NW 4 270 feet; thence East and parallel to the South line of the SW4 of the NW4 270 feet; thence South and parallel to the East line of said SWT' of the NW -41 115.feet; thence East and parallel to the South line of the SWI, of the NW4 266..8 feet more or less to a point on the East line of said.SW4 of the NW4 of Section 17;. thence South along the East line of said SW4 of the NW4 50 feet to the point of beginning, and containing 1.98 acres more or less. The intent of this description is to give access to City Property. The motion was seconded by Alderman Barnhart and passed unanimously. Alderman Kent reported that the Finance Committee had approved the bills and moved they be allowed as approved. The motion was seconded by Alderman Hatfield and passed unanim- ously. Engineer John Mahaffey read a letter from the FAA stating that it was necessary for the City to take immediate action in regard to the improvements at the Municipal Airport in order to obtain Federal Matching Funds. After a long discussion, Alderman McClelland moved to approve the plans and specificati and to authorize Engineer John E. Mahaffey and Paul Young, Architect, .to advertise for bids on March 5 and March 12, 1959, and to "receiv,e:sealed'bidsratc•3ebO��P:•M.VdST,')on March.269 1959, at a special meeting of the City Council of Fayetteville, Arkansas,said bids being for the Municipal Airport Improvement Project and contract will be awarded contingent on receiving a grant from the Federal Aviation Agency for the proposed improvements. Phe motion was seconded by Alderman Hatfield and passed unanimously. lderman McClelland moved to approve plans and specifications of Engineer Marion L. rist and to make up to date payment -to Crist in accordance with their contract. he motion was seconded by Alderman Barnhart and passed unanimously. e City Engineer reported that a map filing cabinet was needed in his office for the ps and plans of the 1958 Water and Sewer Improvement Project. derman Hatfield moved to authorize the purchase of a map filing cabinet as recommends the City Engineer. e motion was seconded by Alderman Barnhart and passed unanimously. he Mayor read a letter from Mr. Jack Burge requesting that a Building Permit be grants o the Tune Construction Co. of Fayetteville, Arkansas,to build the new Junior High chool Building to be located in the north part of the City, free of charge. r. Burge stated that he understood that this had been done for some other City School uildings in the past. he City Building Inspector suggested that this should be referred to some committee fo tudy in order to make a definite understanding for future problems of this sort. lderman Walker moved that this be referred to the Building Committee for study and eport. The motion was seconded by Alderman Kent and passed unanimously. The motion was seconded by Alderman Walker and passed unanimously. There being no further business, Alderman Walker moved to adjourn. The motion was secon by Alderman Hatfield and passed unanimously, whereupon the Mayor declared the meeting adjourned. Margaret Joy Pratt Markham and Mrs. Evangeline More about Pratt Archer had indicated that the City should proceed with condemnation proceedings or condemnation of real estate owned by Mrs. Magdalene Pratt, Margaret Joy Pratt Markham, and Evangeline Pratt Property• Pratt Archer, upon which real estate the elevated water storage tank is to be located.
