The City Council of Fayetteville, Arkansas, met in regular session on Monday, June 23,
1958, at 7:30 P M.
Present: Mayor L Austin Parish, City Clerk George J. Davis, City Controller Albert J.
Jones, City Attorney A. D. McAllister Jr., City Engineer W. C. Smith, Chief of Police
Pearl Watts, Fire Chief Burl Skelton, and Aldermen: Barnhart, Smith, Burgin, Lunsford,
Williams, Hatfield, Kent, and Walker. Absent: None.
The City Building Inspector reported that a Mr. Carroll Elkins has made application to
him for permission to erect three Church of Christ Directional Signs at various pbaces
in the City.
The Building Inspector stated that he had investigated the proposed sign locations and
recommended that the State Highway Department be consulted about those that would be
erected on a State Highway Right of Way and that the matter be referred to the Street
Committee. No further action was taken.
Aderman Burgin reported that he had a letter signed by all the full time paid firemen
lary and one from the members of the Police Dept. requesting a substantial raise in their
rease base pay from $260.00 per month to $300.00 per month.each.
