HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-02-24 Minutes287. The regular session of the City Council of Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Monday, February 2!4, 1958, was opened with a prayer by the Rev. John Teas, Pastor of the Bethdl Baptist Church in Fayetteville. Present: Mayor J. Austin Parish, City Clerk George J. Davis, City Auditor Albert J. Jones, City Attorney A. D. McAllister Jr., City Engineer W. C. Smith, Chief of Police Pearl (Watts, Fire Chief Burl Skelton, and Aldermen owSmith, Burgin, Lunsford, Williams, Hatfield, Kent, and Walker. Absent:.iNone. (The minutes of the regular meeting on Monday, February 10, 1958, were read and approved. Mr. Barnhart 'Mayor•Parish recommended that Mr. Ralph Barnhart be appointed as Alderman from Ward 49 appointedIto fill the vacancy created when Mr. Parish was elected Mayor. Alderman. Alderman Williams moved that Mr. Barnhart be appointed as Alderman from Ward 4 as recom- mended by the Mayor. The motion was seconded ( by Alderman Walker and passed unanimously, Alderman Walker then Called Mr. Barnhart by telephone and notified him of his appointment. Alderman Kent reported that the Finance Committee had approved the bills and moved they (be allowed as approved. The motion was sed'onded by Alderman Lunsford and passed unanimously. Change of Lease to Electronics Facility,. Mr. Steve Starwyck appeared before the Council with reference to some minor changes whi the U. S. Navy Dept. wished to make in the lease agreement signed August 23, 1957, for the Electronics Facility to be located in Fayetteville. The City Attorney then read a proposed resolution for adopting these changes. Alderman Burgin moved the Resolution be adopted. The motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and passed unanimously, whereupon the Mayor declared the Resolution adopted. Copy of Resolution 2-58 WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, on the 23rd day of "ugust, 1957, enter /) into one certain lease agreement with the United States of America vh erein and whereby the City leased the following described real estate to the United States of America for a period of ninety-nine (99) years, to -wit: A part of the Northeast Quarter(NE4) of the Northeast Quarter (NE4) of Section Twenty-one(21), Township Sixteen (16) North of Range Thirty (30) West of the Fifth( (5th P.M.)Principal Meridian, more particularly described as follows, to -wit: Beginning at a point 376.6 feet South of the Northwest corner of the NE4 of the NE41 of said Section 21, and running thence South 0 degrees 6 minutes West 200 feet; thence East 400 feet; thence North 200 feet; thence 399.8 feet to the place of b)egi ning, containing 1.83 acres, more or less, and WHEREAS, said lease agreement, among other things, provided as follows: 113. TERM. This lease shallbe for the period of ninety-nine (99)years beginning 1st .September, 1957, and ending 30th June, 2056, and may, at the option of the Governm be renewed from year to year at the same rental and otherwise upon the terms and conditions herein specified, provided notice be given in writing to the lessor at least 30 days before this lease or any renewal thereof would otherwise expire but rental shall extend the period of occupancy beyond 30th June, 2056," and WHEREAS, the United States of America desires that said above described lease be amended to read as follows, to -wit: "3. TERM. This lease shall be for the period of ninety-nine (99)years beginning 1st March,1958, and ending 1st March,2057,"and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the above described lease agreement be amended, reaf firmed, readopted and reexecuted by the present City Officials, J.Austin PArish, • Mayor, and George J. Davis, City Clerk, and WHEREAS, the City Attorney has approved said lease agreement dated the 23rd day of August,19571 and the amended lease agreement dated the 24th day of February, 1958. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, that J. Austin Parish, Mayor and George J. Davis, City Clerk, be and the R Mr. Barnhart entered at this time and after signing the Oath of Office presented by the City Clerk, took his seat with the Council. Alderman Smith presented seven (7) bids from the various motor companies of Fayetteville for a new pickup truck for the Street Department. Purchase of After a brief discussion, Alderman Smith moved to accept the recommendation of the Pickup Board of Public Affairs, which was to purchase the pickup from the low bidder, Abshier- Truck.
