The Mayor called the City Council of -Fayetteville, Arkansas, in special session on
Monday, November 4,1957; at 4:00 P.M;
Present: Mayor Roy A. Scott, City Clerk George J. Davis, City Auditor Albert J. Jones,
City Engineer W.C. Smith, City Attorney A D. McAllister Jr., and A-ldemmant Richardson,
Parish, Holland, Lunsford, Williams, Bissett, and Alexander.'
Absent: Chief of Police Pearl Watts, Fire Chief Burl Skelton, and Alderman Dale Kent.
The Mayor reported that all members of the -Council had been notified and that Alderman
Bent was unable to attend, due to the illness of one of his employees.
The Mayor reported that the purpose of the special meeting was to decide whether or not
the City could furnish treated water up to one-half million gallons per day for a new.
industry which has expressed a desire to locate near Fayetteville.
Mr. W:. C. Whitfield and several citizens, representing the Citizens Committee of the
Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Council and discussed this problem:
Mr. Whitfield stated that a Mr. George Bazore, representing a large company, wished to i
build a poultry processing plant near Fayetteville, in the Johnson Area, if the City
could furnish the required amount of water which would start with approximately two
hundred fifty thousand (250,000) gallonsl per day and increase to about -one-half million
gallons per dray when running full capacity which w uld be about July 1, 1959.
The Water Superintendent was asked if we'could guarantee the Company one-half million
gallons of treated water per day and he stated that we could not without restrictions
being made during the summer months but we would do everything within our means.if
the company decided to locate near Fayetteville.
Alderman Alexander marred to accept the recommendation,of the Water Committee of the
Council and a committee from the Chamber of Commerce, which was to"furnish the treated
water to the new industry to the amount of one-half million gallons per day by
July 11 1959.
The motion was seconded by Alderman Holland and passed unanimously.
The Mayor then reported that the purpose of the meeting had been accomplished and
declared the meeting adjourned.
