Alderman Richardson moved to pay the bills as approved by the Finance Committee.
The motion was seconded by Alderman Alexander and passed unanimously.

ecided that, in their opinion, this type of metal covering would not be unsightly and

Alderman Richardson reported that the Finance Committee had studied the problem of
increasing the pay of Volunteer Firemen -from $1.00 for each call to $1.50, but they
(believed that no increase should be made during this Fiscal Year.

Motion The City Engineer was asked by Alderman Lunsford to explain future water mains for the

Resurface The City Engineer stated that the future plans for water mains on the Square included
square large ipains across the north, east, and west sides of the Square with four (4) fire

After a brief discussion, Alderman Williams moved -that the Mayor be authori7Fed to resur-
face the Square as per bids by the Anchor Construction Co. for $8,800.00 to be paid out
of next year's funds.
The motion was seconded by Alderman Bissett and upon roll call the following vote was
recorded: "Aye" Williams and Bissett. "Nay" Richardson, Parish, Holland, Lunsford,
Kent, and Alexander.
There being only two "Ayes" and six "Nays", the Mayor declared the motion defeated for
lack of a majority vote.
Alderman Richardson moved that the question of raising the "Business Rates" on
j S'anitation, be referred to the Sanitation Committee.

The minutes of the regular meeting on Monday, August 12, 1957 were read and approved.
Reverend Lindloff and others appeared before the Council and requested that the Council
investigate the traffic situation on Ozark Avenue, Fairview Street and other streets in
that vicinity with reference to placing more traffic signs and reducing the speed limit
in that area.
After a brief discussion, Alderman Richardson moved to refer this problem to the Street
Committee for study and to report at the next Council meeting,

After a brief discussion, this was referred to the City Attorney for study and report.

The minutes of the regular meeting on Monday, August 26, 1957, were read and approved.
(Phe City Attorney reported that he had checked the proposed ordinance which Attorney
W. M. Murphy had brought before the Council on August 26, 19579 concerning the taxi -cab
e fare and base area, and thatirwas satisfactory, both as to the price to be charged, and
the base area.
The City Attorney then read the proposed ordinance entitled,"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND
ORDINANCE N0. 910 OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS, REGULATING AND FIXING FARES OR
ARIFFS TO BE CHARGED BY THE PUBLIC PASSENGER CARRIER IN THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,
ARKANSAS, PRESCRIBING PENALTIES AND OTHER PURPOSES".
Alderman Lunsford moved that the Ordinance be passed.
The motion was seconded by Alderman Holland and passed unanimously, whereupon the Mayor
declared the ordinance passed.
Alderman Williams moved that the emergency clause be adopted.

ND FIXING FARES OR TARIFFS TO BE CHARGED BY THE PUBLIC PASSENGER CARRIER IN THE CITY OF
AYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS, PRESCRIBING PENALTIES AND OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, all persons, firms, and corporations operating taxi cabs in the City of
etteville , Arkansas, have agreed and consented and have shown cause whereby the
es should be raised. And for their other services, and whereas, the City Council of
City of Fayetteville has made a careful study of rates and fares to be charged by
i -cabs t'rhat will give the public reasonable rates with a fair return to the taxi
operators.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,

That Section 1 of Ordinance No. 910 be amended to read as follows:
The taxi cab fare for one person shall be forty cents; for two, fifty cents; and
each additibonal passenger, twenty-five cents from any one point to any one point
