*The Mayor reported he had been requested to open'Gregg Avenue between Prairie Street •
nd Highway 62 West and he referred this to the Street Committee for study.
Drain The City Building Inspedtor appeared before the Council with a question concerning a
pipe floor drain in a proposed new garage building to be built by Mayes -Auto Service on
Meyes North Leverett Avenue. The owner asks permission to run a floor drain drainage pipe to
Garage the street ditch on Sycamore Street.
After a brief discussion the Council approved the owner's request provided he run the
3ratnage pipe to the concrete bridge on Leverett Avenue instead of dumping the drain in
the Sycamore Street ditch.
There being no further. business, Alderman Llexander moved to adjourn. The motion was
seoonded'by Alderman Williams and passed unanimously, whereupon the Mayor declared the
meeting adjourned.

The minutes of the regular meeting of April 22, 1957, were read and approved.

Pursuant to our conversation this afternoon, -I herewith submit
my"resignation as -4 member of the Planning Commission of
Fayetteville to be effective as of June Ist, 1957.
It is with feelings of deepest regret that I present my
resignation. "I have enjoyed the work very much but feel that a'
younger man should take my place. There are a number of problems
that have come up because of the passage of Act No. 186 of 1957,
and as these have a vital effect on Zoning and City Planning, I
feel that in fairness to the City of Fayetteville, the task
should be taken over by a younger person.
I assure you of my continued interest in Fayetteville and
its problems and if necessary will act in an advisory capacity
when needed.

Mr. W.H:Pryor of the Planning Commission, making his farewell appearance before the
Wedington Council; made several recommendations, one of -which was to accept a petition from a number
Drive, of citizens requesting the Council to change•the name of that portion of Highway 16
between Garland Avenue and the City Limits from "Highway 16,West" to "Wedington Drive".
The Council instructed the City Attorney to draft an ordinance to that effect and
proceeded to other business while he was writing this ordinance.
Mr. Pryor then outlined the program of the Citizens' Planning Conference of the American
Citizen's Planning and Civic Association to be held in Little Rock, Arkansas, June 9,109119 and 12,
Planning 1957. Mr. Pryor stated that the cost of sponsoring this convention would be $100.00 for
Convention. each Arkansas Group or City who wished to do so, and he recommended that Fayetteville
be oneof the sponsors.
Alderman Bissett moved that the City appropriate $100.00 as our share in sponsoring the
Convention as recommended by Mr. Pryor.
The motion was seconded by Alderman Lunsford and passed unanimously.
Mr. Pryor discussed the principles of Act No. 186, of the 1957 General Assembly of

1. The Universit of Arkansas will submit an application for an urban planning
grant in the amount of 199600.00 to assist with the development of a planning program

seed to insure the proper and orderly growth and future development of the city in order
to correct and prevent the further development of undesirable growth; and,
WHEREAS, adequate city planning is recognized as of primary;importance to insure
er future growth and development of the city; and,
WHEREAS. -the financial resources and technical staff of the city are not adequate
o provide plans; and,
WHEREAS, a portion of such fins-hoial resources and staff of technical consultants
re available to the University"of Arkarisas; an official State Planning Agency authori
o furnish and provide necessary planning assistance to the -cities of Arkansas.
NOW; THEREFORE be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Fayetteville,
ansas, that the tniversity of Arkansas be, and it is hereby requested to undertake

Firemen's Relief -and Pension Fund doesn't look very encouraging at the present time due

That hereafter that part of State Highway No. 16 West as is now located between North
Garland -Avenue and the Western corporate limits of the City of Fayetteville shall be
known as Wedington Drive.

WHEREAS,'there is duly filed iri the office of the Circuit Clerk and Ex -Officio
Recorder for Washington County, Arkansas, a plat known as Anderson Sub -Division, dated
February 27, 1957, and being apart of the Southwest Quarter of the Northwest Quarter of
Section, Twenty-bne, Township Sixteen North, Range Thirty West of the 5th Principal
Meridian.. and which the owners of the platted real estate have dedicated for the public
use the streets, alleys, and easements shown upon said plat.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,

Section 1. That the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, hereby accepts and confirms

TO FIX

SALARY OF THE JUDGE
OF THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE,
COUNTY
OF
WASHINGTON, STATE OF
ARKANSAS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES:
WHEREAS, the adoption of Constitutional Amendment No. 46 on Npgvember 6,1956,
manifests the need for adjustment of salaries for the Judiciaty of "rkansas, and
WHEREAS, THE'61st General Assembly of the State of Arkansas enacted Senate Bill
No. 7, now. Arkansas ~Act No. 109 df 1957, fixing the annual salary'of the Judge of the
Municipal Court of the -City of Fayetteville; County of Washington, State of Arkansas,
at$6,000.00, from and after January 12 1957..
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,
ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the Municipal Judge of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas shall
periform such duties as are prescribed by law for Municipal Judges of cities of first
clabs having an aldermanic form of government.
• Section 2. The annual salary of the Municipal Judge of the City of Fayetteville,
Arkansas, -is hereby fixed at $69000.00, which salary shall be payable in twelve equal
monthly'3ns;tallments retroactive to and commencing January 1, 1957.
Section 3. The annual salary of the Judge of the Fayetteville Municipal Court sY
be and remain as herein provided unless otherwise designated by the Arkansas Legislatu
and ordinance of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Section 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed.
Section 5. The provisions of this ordinance are severable, and if any phrase,
clause, part or provision hereof shall be held void, the remaining parts of this
ordinance shall not be affected or impaired.
Section 6. It appearing that adoption of this ordinance is in the furtherance of t]
administration of justice and is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public
peace, welfare, and safety, an emergency is hereby declared and this ordinance shall be
in force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
