Nay --none. Not voting, Parish. There being seven Yeas and no Nays, the Mayor declared the motion passed. Mayor Scott announced that he would appreciate the reappointment of Mr. McGoodwin, Reappoint whose term as a member of the Board of Adjustment expired January 1, 1957. Mr.MCGO dwin to Alderman Bissett moved to reappoint Mr. McGoodwin as a member of the Board of Board of Adjust. Adjustment. The motion was seconded by Alderman Williams and passed unanimously. 1957 Mayor Scott announced his appointment of, the Standing Committees for%to be the same as of 1956, with two exceptions,viz, Alderman Bronson, as Chairman of the.Ordinance and ParksCommittee, was transferred to Chairman of the Shop Committee, and Alderman Parish was transferred to the Ordinance and Parks Committee thereby moving Alderman Lunsford up to Chairman -.-of this Committee. The Mayor then presented to the Council a plat for a proposed Sub -Division on Highway 1 est, submitted by Mrs. Norma Whitehead and Mr. R.C. Harding. Alderman Parish moved the plat be referred to the Planning Committee for further study. The motion was seconded by Alderman Alexander and passed unanimously. Alderman Richardson moved that the Council accept the budget,as presented in the book Budget for by City Auditor Albert Jones, for the year of 1957. 1957 ------- The motion was seconded by Alderman Alexander and passed unanimously. Alderman Alexander then read the report of the Fire Department for the year of 1956, and filed it with the City Clerk. rhere being no further business, Alderman Richardson moved to adjourn. Davis, City Auditor Albert Jones, City Atty. A.D. McAllister, City Engineer W.C.Smith, Chief of Police Pearl Watts, Fire Chief Burl Skelton, and Aldermen: Richardson, Parish, Holland, Lunsford, Williams, Bronson, and klexander. Absent: Alderman Bissett. The minutes of the January 14, 1957 meeting were read and approved. Petition A petition by the University of Arkansas,;.reQuesting the City to vacate certain unopen from U.ofA. streets in the Oak Park Place Addition, was read by City Atty. A.D.McAllister after which Mr. Carlson,of the University,presented and described An Artist's Conception of the New University Housing Unit to be built in the Oak Park Place Addition. After a brief discussion, Alderman Alexander moved that the Council adopt the Resoluti as written by City Atty.A.D. McAllister, pertaining to the above petition. ' Mayor Scott then gave a report of his trip to Little Rock, Arkansas in connection with the Municipal Lea��PPu and suggested that each member of the City Council contact their State Legislator's�t�ote for the Bill, sponsored by the Municipal League, which wou give the^.cities more Turnback Money for street purposes. Alderman Richardson reported that the Finance Committee had approved the bills and moved that they be allowed as approved. The motion was seconded by Alderman Alexander, and passed unanimously. The Mayor then read a Resolution from the Board of Directors of the Ozarks Rural Eledt Cooperative Corporation but no action was taken. Mayor Scott then read a letter from the Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census, regarding the Special Census to be taken in the City of Fayetteville in the near future, A copy of the letter.was inserted in the minutes. COPY OF THE LETTER FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, BUREAU OF THE CENSUS: January 24, 1957 Honorable Roy A. Scott Mayor of Fayetteville Fayetteville, Arkansas My dear Mayor Scott: We have your letter of January 17, enclosing a check for $1,320.00 to cover the cost of preparing the special census maps, supervisory expenses, tabu- lation of results, and other items in connection with the special census. Eleven copies of the map of Fayetteville have been received in this office. Mr. Robert L. Hagan, Acting Regional Supervisor, Bureau of the Census, St. Louis, Mo., will get in touch with you in the near future to make arrange- ments for the census. Mr. Hagan will assign a member of his staff to supervise the census and will notify you of the name of the supervisor and the date of the supervisor's arrival in Fayetteville. Mr. Hagan has responsibility for scheduling special censuses in 'his region and I am sure he will make every effort to schedule the census of Fayetteville before the month of June. The formal agreement will be prepared for your signature and it will be presented to you by the Special Census Supervisor when he arrives in the city to conduct the census. Sincerely yours, Robert W. After a brief discussion Alderman Holland moved that the Council accept the Budget,., which was the Number 3 Proposal. The motion was seconded by Alderman Bronson and passed unanimously. Mayor Scott then stated the need of the purchase of a new gravel loader. After a brief discussion, Alderman Williams stated that he believed Alderman Bissett had some data on this which he would present at the next meeting, therefore no action was taken until Alderman Bissett could be present, for • • 225 Alderman Alexander moved that the Board of Public Affairs be authorized to advertise • for bids for 500 feet of 22 inch hose and a hose dryer, the specificationscto be:.:.. furnished by the Fire Chief Burl Skelton. The motion was seconded by Alderman Lunsford and passed unanimously. There being no further business, Alderman Lunsford moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Alderman Richardson and passed unanimously, whereupon the Mayor declared the meeting adjourned. (� WHEREAS, a petition was duly filed with the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, on the 25th day of January, 1957, asking the City Council to vacate and abandon certain streets, avenues, and boulevards in Oak Park Place Addition described as follows: Ordinance # 1122 Wyoming Street from Razorback Road on the West to intersection with Wisconsin v®nue on the East, bordering Lots #1201 through 1207. -and 1900 through 1907 which "are o the North side of this street and Lots 1300 through 1305 and 1800 through 1807 which are on the South side of this street. Minnesota Street from Razorback Road on the West to Florida Avenue on the East, ordering Lots 1007 through 1012, 1404 through 1410, and 1700 through 1703 which are on he North side of this street, and Lots 900 through two lots each number 906, 1500 hrough 1507, and 1600 through two lots each number 1606 which are on the South side f this street.
