Motion was seconded by Alderman Richardson and passed unanimously. Alderman Alexander moved that the Board of Public Affairs be requested to advertize for bids for a new fire truck subject to specifications being prepared by the Fire Chief and the City Engineer. Motion was seconded by Alderman Richardson and passed unanimously. Alderman Alexander reported upon investigation by the Police Committee of the "Drunk - 0 -Meter". Ng action was taken on the proposed ordinance to measure the degrees of drunkeness,of persons arrested\for being drunk and driving while under. -the influence of intoxicating liquor. The Mayor announced that the next regular meeting of the Council would be held June 11, 1956, at 7:30 P.M. O'Clock and that the following regular meeting would be held June 25, 1956 and thereafter on the 2nd and 4th Mondayff of each month. rhere being no further business Alderman Holland moved to adjourn. McAllister, Jr. was ignated to act as City Clerk. ^� Minutes of the regular meeting of May 219 1956 were read and approved. �Alderman Alexander moved that the Mayor and Acting City Clerk be authorized to purchase vrr^^^ 300 ft. of 2 1/2 inch fire hose and 200 ft of 1 1/2 inch fire hose from Blaze Guard Manufacturing Company of North Bergen, New Jersey, in accordance with the recommendation of the Board of Public Affairs addressed to the Mayor and Members of the City Council by letter dated June 9, 1956 to read as follows: 300 feet of 2 1/2 inch Blazeron (Dacron 600 lbs) 1.55 per foot 200 feet of 1 1/2 inch Blazeron (Dacron 600 lbs) 1.05 per foot Terms: 2% 10 days, net 30 days. Full freight allowance from the factory. Shipment: Two to four weeks from.rre 6ipt of order at Factory. The motion was duly seconded by Alderman Richardson and passed unanimously. Mr. Roy Adams appeared before the City Council and requested that the re -plat of lots 7-12, inclusive of Block 4 of Wilson -Adams addition to the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas be accepted by the Council. Alderman Holland moved that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare an ordinance accepting said re -plat for submission to the Council at the next regular meeting. Mr. Warren Gifford appeared before the.Council concerning the placing of wooden shingles �ddW'a on the roof of his residence at 930 California Drive. Alderman Bissett moved that the City Attorney and the City Building Inspector be directed to prepare and present to the City Council upon obtaining the recommendations of the Arkansas Inspection and Rating Bureau, two ordinances admending the present ordinance regulating the use of wooden shingles as roofing material so as to permit the use of wooden shingles to replace existing shingle roof construction upon structures at least 15 feet distance from adjacent structures and so as to prohibit the use of wooden shingles for construction of new roofs. Motion was duly seconded by Alderman Holland and passed unanimously. Alderman Richardson moved that the bills presented by the finance committee be allowed and approved. Motion was duly seconded by Alderman Alexander and passed unanimously. s Alderman Bissett moved that the Mayor be authorized to purchase a used roller from • McClinton Brothers at a price not to exceed $800 on condition that a bill of sale be received from McClinton Brothers free and clear of all liens and all incumberances. Smith, City_Auditor Albert Jones, City Building Inspector arold Liebe'renz, Police Chief Pearl Watts, Fire Chief Burl Skelton, and 'Aldermen: Richardson, Parish, Holland, Lunsford, Williams, Bronson and Alexander. Absent: Bissett. ' Mayor Scott recommended that City Auditor Albert Jones, be appointed to fill the vacancy created in the office of City Clerk by reason of the death of J. W. McGehee, City Clerk, on a part time basis at a compensation of $100 per month until such time as a successor to Mr. McGehee has been duly elected and qualified. Whereupon, Alderman Lunsford nominated City Auditor, Albert Jones as City Clerk of the City of Fayetteville,Arkansas, to fill the unexpired term of J. W. McGehee, City Clerk, on a part time basis with compensation to be fixed at $100.per month until, such time as a successor to Mr. McGehee has been duly elected and qualified. Motion was seconded by Alderman Alexander and passed unanimously.. The City Council read in full Ordinance # 1110 being an Ordinance to accept the re -plat of lots 7-12, inclusive, of Block 4 -of the Wilson -Adams Addition to the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas. No further action was ,taken by the Council and the Ordinance was left on its first reading. Alderman Richardson moved that the application of Frank W. Lewis, for building permit #2082 be approved. Motion was seconded.by Alderman Parish and passed unanimously. Alderman Alexander moved that the application of Paul Walker for Building permit # 2095 be approved. Motion was seconded by Alderman Bronson and passed unanimously. Alderman Richardson moved that the bills presented by the finance committee be allowed arid approved. Motion was duly seconded by Alderman Alexander and passed unanimously. Alderman Bronson moved that the Mayor be requested to write a letter of condolesence. to Mrs. J. W. McGehee, Widow of the late J. W. McGehee, City Clerk, onabehalfaof the City Council, and that a copy of the letter be recorded in the Council minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Williams and passed unanimously. HEREAS, in the passing of Jarret Walker McGehee theC'City of Fayetteville has lost an fficient and capable City Clerk, and HEREAS, Jarret Walker McGehee, as a public servant has always been faithful and rustworthy in the performance of his duties, and by reason of his acts has brought redit both to himself and to those whom he served, for a sum of eighteen (18) years, HEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council of the City'of Fayetteville,\to commemorat, is services as a public official and to express our sympathy' to membersrof the family, OW THEREFORE,.be it resolved,,by the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hat our condolences be extended to the beareaved family, and thataoopy of.this resoluti e forwarded to them.
