Absent: City Clerk J.W.McGehee. The Mayor stated that the meeting had been set'at this time to hear reports from he City Building Inspector and the Water Superintendent & City Engineer,and Harold Lieberenz ,City Building Inspector reviewed the operations of his departn Among some of the main problems of his department are:old inspection fees levied under or nances dating back to 1914, all lower than actual cost of inspection; added responsibilit of zoning`&nspections curtail plumbing,building and elei rical inspections;some outside services are performed without charge;increase in use of septic tanks has placed addition inspection demands upon the department, after discussion, Alderman Williams made a motior that'the Building Committee and the Building Inspector examine the prohiem of inspection fees,and present an ordinance at the earliest practicable date, this motion was seconded by Alderman McAllister and was passed unanimously. The City Engineer,Carl Smith, discussed the operations of the Water Department. The Mayor reported that on account of Phillips Motor Company making a mistake in their bid submitted May 2nd.;on the two ton long wheel base truck for the Water Department, that the Board of Public Affairs had allowed them to withdraw their bid'and the Board of Public Afairs had accepted the next low bid of Houston Taylor at $1.9765.94, Alderman Parish I ade a r;totion that the action of the Board of Public Affairs be approved, this motion wash seconded by Alderman Williams, and was passed unanimously. The City Building Inspector presented the application of Bryce Davis for a permit at the Eason Building, Alderman Richardson made a motion that Permit No.1688 be issued t Bryce Davis, this motion was seconded by Alderman Williams, which was passed unanimously by the Council. The Bldg. Inspepector presented the applivation of the Standard Finance Co for a Permit at the corner of Church and Center, Alderman Richardson made a motion that Permit) No.1691 be issVed to Standard Finance Co:subject to the location and the Parking area con- forming to Building Ordinance regulations,this motion was seconded by Alderman Bronson, and Inas passed unanimously* for a permit) The Bldg. Inspebtor presented the application of Garland Wheeler,atWheelers Drive- in on Dickson Street, Alderman Lunsford made a motion that Building Permit No. 1692 be P ssued to Garland Wheeler, this motion was seconded by Alderman Parish, and was passed unanimously. D.J.Burleson appeared befode the Council in the interest of a client to see. Sf some action could be taken to speed up a hearing for re -zoning an area on South 71 to per- mit the erction of a building for a veterinary, since the present schedule of regular meet- ings of the Planning Commission were such that for an application to go through the regular I of proceedure, a hearing could not be had before the Council before sometime in t 'October, and after discussion, Alderman Bronson made a motion that the Mayor be authorized o write a letter to the Planning Commibssion, asking them to have a special meeting to act In the aplication, so that a hearing could be had before the Council in July, this motion was seconded by Alderman Richardson, and was passed unanimously. 110._ z Fee refundryce Davis,the contractor for the Elementary School on Highway 45,East,asked that the adlto fee for the Building permit be refunded, after discussion, Alderman Richardson made a School motion that the fee, amounting to $161.50 be refunded, this motion was seconded by Alder- • man Lunsford, and was passed unanimously. The Mayor presented a letter from the Board of Public Affairs, as follows: In compliance with your request of May 2,19559 the Board of Public Affairs of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas,have advertised and taken bids for 50 single automatic parking Teter heads to operate for 5 cents per hour with a range of one to ten hours. Alderman McAllister introduced "AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE INTRODUCTION OF FLUORINE INTO THE DRINKING WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM WHICH SERVICES THE CITY OF FAYE.TEVILLE, ARKANSAS, PROVIDING FOR THE REGULATION OF FLUORIDATION AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES% The Ordinance was read the first time, and by agreement was left on its first reading.
