BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVMLLE,ARKANSAS: Section 1. The annual license or tax for the privilege of operating a bus line or the transportation of passengers by the University City Transit Company, Inc•, solely ithin the corporate limits of the City of Fayetteville ,Arkansass and within a five'(5)mile adius beyond the corporate limits of said city shall be One Hundred Dollars ($100.00)pe ear,retroactive tib January 1, 1955. Section 2.The Fayetteville City Council met in regular session, Monday, March 21, 1955. herein provided shall become due Present: Mayor Roy A Scott, City Clerk J.W.McGehee; Cit -k. Attorney A.D.McAllister, City 1st • ar and shall Fuilding Inspector Harold Lieberenz,City Auditor Albert Jones,Police Chief Pearl Watts, the privilege of operating said bus line Fire Chief Burl Skelton, and Aldermen : Richardson ,Parish, Hunt, Lunsford, Williams, a period of one ye cAllister, Bronson and Alexander# Minutes of the regular meeting of March 7th, were read and approved. A%lderman. McAllister , Chairman of the Sanitation Committee reported that the Sanitation Committee made the trip to Ft.Smith and found that the.operation of the Packer type vehicles they were operating were very satisfactory(that they were operating 32 and were planning to buy two more of the same kind of machines),and the Mayor reported that the Board of Public Affairs had received bids on the 2 -ton, long wheel base chassis, and that Phillips Motor Company had submitted the lowest bid. Ti buy Alderman McAllister made a motion that: subject to the approval of the BOARD If Packer PUBLIC AFFAIRS, the Mayor be authorized to purchase the 12 Yard Packer machine,and to I ccept the lowest and best bid of Phillips Motor Company for the INTERNATIONAL 2 -ton , machine ChassisJilliams, & long wheel base chassis, amounting to $1,833.33 , this motion was seconded by Alderman and was passed unanimously by the Council* The Building Inspector presented the application of Fred Brooks for a permit to build a concrete block building to store his refrigerator equipment, and a building IPo store trash and garbage, Alderman Richardson made a motion that Permit No 1636 be issihed to Fred Brooks to erect the building to store the Refrigerator equipment, and that the I uilding Inspector get further information off the construction of,the trash and garbage building, this motion was seconded by Alderman Alexander, and was passed unanimously by the Council. The Building Inspector presented the application of Chas Pile,for a permit at the Twin Arch Motel for three additional units, Alderman Richardson made a motion that Permit No:.1.T639:_be`'is"suedto:_Chas_'.P.ia•this motion was secinded by Alderman Lunsford, and was passed unanimously by -the Council. The Building Inspector presented the -application of Burl Baker for a Permit on South 71 Highway, Alderman Richardson made 'a motion -that Permit No. 1640 be issued to �3url Bakea,'this motion was sdconded by Alderman Williams, and was:cpassed unanimously by he Council. t'Alderman Richardson reported that the bills -had been approved by the Auditing Committee', and made a"motion that they be allowed as approved, this motion was seconded y Alderman Alexander, and was passed unanimously by the Council. A group of Negro Citizens appeared before the Council with a petition requesting Negro that some action be taken on a former petition which requested that some action be taken) petition to improve theirstreets and also server service; and after discussioh , the matter was rel Iferred to the Street and Sanitation committees. No -persons firm, or corporation shall operatate a bus line in the City f Fayetteville, Arkansas,without having first paid the license or tax hereinabove provi nd in the event the license or tax is not paid as provided in Section 2 hereof,the pers irm, or corporation so operating such bus line shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upe onvictionthereof, shall be fined in any sum not exceeding Twenty -Five Dollard($25.00) or each bus line so operated in violation of the terms of this Ordinance and each day o uch operation shall be considered a seperate offense* Section 4. That all that portion of Section l\,of Ordinance No.1059 which fixes a7license fee for'the privilege of operating a common carrier passenger vehicle,with fix passenger capacity in excess of seven (7) passedgers, is hereby expressly repealed.
