Fayetteville City Council met in regular session, Monday, January 26th,1953.
Present: Mayor Powell M.Rhea, City Clerk J.W.MaGehee, City Attorney A.D.MeAllister,City
Engineer John Mahaffey, City Auditor'Harold Zick.Fire Chier Burl Skelton,and Aldermen:
Richarson, Burge, Pratt, Williams, McAllister, Heflin and Kent. Absent :Alderman Hunt.
Minutes of the regular meeting"of January 5th were read and approved.
Haskel Utley, President of the Chamber 'of Commerce together with several"members of the
Committee Chamber of Commerce -appeared before the�Coiincil-and'offered'to�provide a <

from Chamber members to act in advisory capacity to assist -'the -'Council in' arranging for expan-

appointed by popular vote January 20th,Aldermah Pratt made a motion to apprbve the offer for the
advisory committee from the -Chamber of Commeroe; this motion was seconded by Alderman
Milliams, and was passed unanimously by the Council.
The City Engineer presented the applicetioh of-Chis�L':Sweetner for a temporary Building
ermit at 1316'.South School Averiue,for a soft drir* stand, Alderman Heflin -'made a motion
hat Permit No..,911 be issued to Chas"L.Sweetner,with the understanding that should other
uildings be constructed that would cause -this perm&t to tie in violation of the Zoning
)rdinance, that the Building 'would be removed, this motion was seconded by Alderman Pratt,
ind was passed unanimously by the Council.
The City Engineer reported that there had -been some change in the conditions
surrounding the Building Permit issued to'Ray Adams, and -asked for some advice from the
Council as to what to do about it, Alderman Kent made amotion that the matter be -referred
to the Building Committee for recommendation, this motion was seconded by Alderman Williams,
and was passed unanimously by the Council.
Bids for I The bids for construction of -a sewer line in Jaokson Heights area were opened,

linein Ca). and Bryce Davis, -it was decided that -the City Engineer and Sewer Committee would make

ervice Commission, and recommended that A.P.Easons Jr.'be appointed to replace D.J.
Surleson,whose term would have expired'filzst Monday in April , 1962s Alderman'Pratt made

The Mayor presented the contract of John Mahaffey as Water Superintendent, City `
ngineer and Superintendent of the Sewer Disposal Plant,said "contract to run two years al
rom January 1, 1953, after discussion, Alderman McAllister made a motion that the contri
e approved, and the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute the contract, this mo,
ion was seconded by Alderman Pratt, and on roll call by the Clerk, the following vote
as recorded: Ayes: Richardson, Burge, Pratt, Williams, McAllister and Heflin. Nays:Kent,
bsent and not voting: Alderman Hunt. And the Mayor declared the motion carried, as them
ere 6 Ayes and 1.Nay.
-There being no further business, Alderman Williams moved to, -adjourns seconded by
lderman McAllister, which was passed unanimously by the Counc and AS Mayor declared
he Council a djourned.
