HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-01-23 MinutesAbshier- HE 'OLE PHILLIPS MOTOR CO ayatteville City Council met in a CALLED SESSION, Tuesday, January 23rd,at4.0'clock P.M P esent: Mayor Powell M.Rhea, City Clerk J.W.McGehee, City Attorney A.D.McAllister,'and A dermen; Richardson, Burge, NlcGoodwin, Pratt, Willliams, Kincaid, IIeflin.and Kent, A�so,several members of the Chamber Of Commerce. The P.Iayor stated that the meeting had been called for the purpose of taking some tion on the proposed Re-routing of Highway 71 through the City,and stated that the High y Department had made a neer proposal which would re�iiXire'the'.Cityot6 pay only 25°� of e cost of securing the Right-of-way instead of 33 1under former proposal, and he fe at it was very urgent that some action be taken at once, after talks by Tex Waggoner, esident of the Chamber of Commerce and W.C.Nlhitfield, member of the rive man Business n's Committee, appointed to work with the Council in planning the Route'to be selected r Highway No. 71, through the City,and a general round -table discussion, Alderman Goodwin made a motion that the City proceed to acquire the right-of=way for the U.S. ghway 71 cut-off from College and Rock to School and Second Streets. That the City torney be instructed to file condemnation proceedings at the earliest practical date on 1 the required propertg. That, after the necessary proceedings are filed a committee mposed of three citizens appointed by the B?ayor and approved by -the City Council be em- oyed to deal with the various property ownerss to determine if a reasonable price can b tually agreed upon. In case such price cannot be agreed upon within 60 days from date o ling said condemnation proceedings, then the City shall take such further necessary Ste to acquire the property by June 1, 1951. It is further moved that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to borrow 0,000, not to exceed 4 perccent interest, pledging such securities as are required, su ansactibn subject'to the final ratification of the City Council. This motion was recon Alderman Richardson, and was passed unanimously by the Council. Regular Session. At this time Alderman Kent made a motion that the Council go into regular ssion, and on roll call by the Clerk, the following vote was recorded; Ayes: Richardson rge, McGoodwinl Pratt, PJilliams, Kincaid, Heflin and Kent. Nays: -'None. And the Mayor clared the Council.in regular session. This motion was seconded by Alderman Pratt, and was passed nanimously by the 'Council. PASSED AND APPROVED this 23rd day o a.:aary, 19� ATTEST: ayor �Y Clerk ALDER11AN MCGoodwin made a motion_ that the City Attorney be authorized td) draft a RESOLUTION against the passage of SEI?ATEBILL #68, which proposes to amend SECTION 5 of Act 215-1937, this motion was seconded by Alderman Kent and was passed unanimously by he Council. • Alderman Williams made a motion that the City Attorney'be 'instructed to prepay an Ordinance by next regular meeting, January 29th, authorizing the extension of time to buy vehicle licenses to, but not including March lst, this motion was seconded by Alder - Kincaid,, and on roll call by the Clerk the following vote was recordo.d; Ayes: Burge, fcGoodwin,lllilliams, Kihcaid,Heflin and Kent. Nays: Richardson and Pratt. And the Mayor declared the Motion passed, as there were 6 Ayes, and 2 Nays.
