The Clerk presented the Jan Fc Feb. reports of Henry George as Acting Chief of the Fire Department and as Building Inspector, G,T,Sanders as Ex -officio Chef of the Police YAPK X 1 & epartment, Roy Nix, as Sewer Service Collector, J,W.McGehee as City Collector and as City .reportslerk, and alderman Stubblefield presented the February report of the Water Department, alderman Geegory made a motion that the reports be received and filed, seconded by alder an Bronson, which was passed unanimously by the Council. Alderman Stubblef ield introduced an Ordinance entitled "APT ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF THE DUTIES OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES*H� The Ordinance was read by the Clerk in its entirety.4 alderman Gregorjc made a ;notion that the rules be suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading, this i nom tion was seconded by alderman Bronson, and was passed unanimously by the Council. _ The Clerk then read the Ordinance the second time, and after discussion, a��er- man Bronson made a motion that the rules be further suspended and the Ordinance placed on its third and final-read-igg, this motion was seconded by alderman Gregory, and was passed unani 8 mously by the Council* The Clerk then read the ordinance the third and final time. Absent and not voting: aldermen Williams and McRoy. and the Mayor declared adopted, as there were 6 Ayes, and no Nays G R D I N A N C E N 0. 8-8-4 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE Pi`FORMANCE OF THE DUTIES OF THE CHIEF O FTF POLICE OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES•. WHEREAS under present conditions the duties of the office of Chief of Police require the services of a full time employee; and '.Whereas the Civil Service Commission of the City of Fayetteville does not at present have any person qualified for appointment to the office of Chief of Police. T1 OVl THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYET 7ILLE, ARKAPTSAS SECTION I. That the Mayor be and he is hereby authorized to select some persontto perform the duties of the office of Chief of Police of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, subject to the approval of the Police Committee and the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, at such salary as the Council may from time to time fix. The Mayor of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, is hereby relieved o his duties as ex -officio chief of the Police Department in the City of Fayetteville and to be under no obligations to discharge such duties• SECTION II. Alderman Gregory made a motion that the City donate the sum of $30.00 to 1C6uC'rOSS the Red Cross, this motion was seconded by alderman Bronson, which was passed unani- De)�Ar)o9r mously by the Council* A Petition was presented by the Clerk, containing the names of several Pro-tEis-t property owners on North College Avenue and members of the Christian and Baptist Churel 0 F protesting the issuance of a building permit to Pearl Porter, but after discussion, it was ascertained that no change in construction of the building was anticipated, except 'PC 4ry to swing 2 doors outward instead of inside, and it was decided that no action by the Ip„• fEr Council was neccessary• There being no further business, alderman McRoy moved to adjourn, seconded by alderman Bronson, which was duly passed by the Council, and the Mayor decla k, the Council adjourned* Attest 19r*Approved r/L��_ C/ Ul y Clerk.
