Section 6. It is hereby ascertained and declared that because of the fact that
here are not adequate facilities for the landing of modern large and fast flying airplanes
eeded in these times of war for the protection of the citizens of Fayetteville, it is
ecessary for the preservation of public peace, health and safety that this ordinance sill
ecome effective without delay, an emergency is declared and this ordinance shall be in
orce and take effect immediately upon and after its passage.
Passed, and approved July 20th, 19420.

Minutes of the regular meeting of July 20th, 1942, were read and approved;
the following bills were presented, after their approval by alderman Hosford, chairman of

Gentlemen:
Owing to my present health and acting on the advice of my
physician, that after a rest, I secure a less strenuous position, I am submitting herewith
?Ln d as that you accept this letter as my resignation as Collector of the City Water Plarit,
o become,effective Sept. 1,1942
I would like to request that an audit of my office be lade
he first part of August, so that I may take a needed vacation the last part ofd) the month.
Regretting very much that I am forced to leave the Water Department, and assuring
ou that I.shall always be interested in the up -building and welfare of the City and all lof
is Depabtments, and will be of any service possible to the Department of which I have b en
mployed since May 1.1930.

lderman Bronson made a motion that the resignation be accepted, seconded by alderman Ho ford
which was passed unanimously by the Council;
Alderman Sanders made a motion that the Water. Committee be authorizgd to
mploy some Auditing Firm, other than R.C.FRAMBERS & CO. to make the audit of the Cityy
ater Plant, this motion was seconded by alderman Shook, and was passed unanimously by he
ouncil,
Alderman Gregory made a motion that M.Cunningham be relieved of his actige
uties as Collector of the City Water Plant, August 1st, with pay to September 1st, 1942.
vith the understanding th4t Mr.Cunningham feel free to be in the office during the time of
he audit, if he so desires* this motion was seconded by alderman Hosford, and was passed
nanimously by the Council:

Alderman Gregory made a motion that the Council go into executive session,
seconded by alderman McRoy, which was passed unanimously by the Council, and the Mayor
eclared the Council in executive session, after discussion of various administratatj•,rr
natters, alderman Banks moved to go out of executive session, seconded by alderman Stubblelas-
ield, which was passed unanimously by the Council, and the Mayor declared the Council iA
regular session..

Alderman Gregory made a recommendation that the SEWER SERVICE COMI.IITTEE and

the WATER COMMITTEE be -abolished and the Mayor annoint new committees for these two De-

artments, after some discussion, the Mayor stated that he would abolish all STANDING
COMMITTEES, effectivep next Monday Night, July 27th,1942, and that he would at that time
be prepared to announce a new list of COMMITTEES.
There being no further business, alderman Gregory made a motion to adjourn,
seconded by alderman McRoy, which was duly passed by the Council, and the Mayor declared
the Council adjourned.
