Mayor Vaughan reported on the trip made by the committees to Little Rock,
with reference to the Underpass on West Center Street, and said they got no'definite
promise except an agreement to make a survey at their earliest convendence.

Alderman Gregory introduced an Ordinance, entitled, "AN ORDINANCE AUTHM IX
THE BOARD OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS TO PURCHASE A POLICE PATROL CAR, DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AN
FCR OTHER PURPOSES.
The ordinance was read in its entirety by the Clerk, and alderman
Bronson made a motion that the rules be suspended and the ordinance placed on its Seco
reading, seconded by alderman Hosford, which was passed unanimously by the Council.
The Clerk then read the ordinnee the second .time, and after discussdob$
alderman Shook made a motion that the rules be further suspended, and the ordinance
placed on its third and final reading, seconded by alderman Banks, which was passed
unanimously by the Council.
The Clerk then read the ordinance the third and final time,
The Mayor then put the question,"Shall the ordinance pass", and on roll call. by the
Clerk, received the unanimous vote of the Council, and the Mayor declared, passed, as
there were 7 Ayes, and no nays.
Alderman McRoy moved the adoption of the emergency clause, seconded by alderman
Hosfordwhich received the unanimous vote of the Council, and. the Mayor declared , adopi

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE BOARD OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS TO PURCHASE A POLICE PATR
CAR, DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Board of Public Affairs has recommended the purchase of a
Police Patrol car for the use of the Police Department of the City of Fayetteville, a
has estimated that said purchase will amount to $817.00.
NOW s THEREFORE , BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAY-
ETTEVnLE, ARY,ANSAS:
SEC. I. That the Board of Public Affairs be and they are hereby ordered,
directed and authori$ed to take such steps as are necesssary in purchasing a police patrol
car for the Police Department of the City of Fayetteville at a cost not to exceed $817ql00.
SEC. 11. It appearing that, since the first day of August, members of tl
Police Department were not.required to furnish cars in connection with their duties as
such officers and it is neccessary that other suitable transportation must be immediat(
furnished'in order to safeguard the public health, peace and safety; an emergency is h(
by declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and aft(
its passage, approval and publication.
Passed and Approved this 4th day of August, 1941.

lay a sidewalk on North -Olive Street from Gunter to Johnson, said request being, for
"permission to put the sidewalk out in the Street a distance of Lft from the line 'eso
tablished for sidewalks. Alderman Bronson made a motion that the matter b.e referred to
the Street Committee and City Engdneer, with power to act.'this motion was seconded by
alderman Banks , and was passed unanimously by the Council
The Mayor appointed aldermen, Brondon, McRoy and Stubblef ielci, and the Ci
Attorney to'confer with Mr. Ward about the Garbage contract, and make recommendations
the Council.
There beim no further business, alderman McRoy moved to adjbur seconded by alderman
