ORD I N A N C E NO . 8-5-2 AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE SEPERATE OFFICE OF CHIEF OF POLICE OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, financial conditions of the City of Fayetteville have made at possible to set aside sufficient funds to maintain the seperate office of Chief of Police, and WHEREAS, it is desirable that a Chief of Police be named as soon as a suitable person can be selected with necessary qualifications; NCW,THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Faye tter.'."j villa, Arkansas: SECTION 1. The seperate office of Chief of Police of the City of Fayette. ville is hereby created and shall be filled in the mariner provided by law and the rules and regulations of the Civil Service Commission of the Cijsy of Fayetteville. SECTION 2. Pending the selection and designation of a Chief of Police, the Mayor of the City of Fayetteville shall continue'to act as Ex -Officio Chief of Police in the capacity in which he is now serving. SECTION 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed; and it appearing that the administration of the Police Department requires a full time, active Chief of Police, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and this ordinance shall be'in full force and effect from and after its passge, approval and publication. Alderman Gregory, chairman of the Building Committee, stated that he had con- ferred with the Secretary of the Masonic Lodge, with reference to their request to lease the East 2 of the third floor of the Administration Building,and was informed that the Lodge would appoint a Committee at their first regular meeting, to confer with the Bldg. Committee.(of the Council) A petition, signed by a number of Property owners and Citizens, was present and read by the Clerk, asking that a Bridge be built acrmss the "Town Branch" on South Washington Avenue,alderman Bronson made a motion that the Petition be received and filed, and referred to the Street Committee, this motion was seconded by alderman Gregory, and was passed unanimously by the Council. ,
