HomeMy WebLinkAbout1940-08-12 Minutes (2)Son: Buih permi use 1 glass d to ter 46 (Regular Meeting of August 5th, continued(() rs L.L.Shirmer appeared before the Council and requested that they--reconaidtheir action f July l@th, with reference to a building permit for her, after discussion, alderman ronson made a motion that all members of the Council view the site of the proposed Aiding and be ready to act at the next regular meeting; this motion was seconded by lderman Peal, and was passed unanimously by the Council. .; Alderman Gregory stated that the Building Inspector had recommended that w.F.Sonnema be'permitted to use a lighter type of glass in some of the openings of his new building- at uildingat the corner of Dickson and University Streets, since the type of glass specified in the Building Code for buildings in the Fire Zone was too heavy for the steel frames and hardware planned to be used in some of the openings in said building, alderman McRoy made a motion that the action of the Building Inppector be ratified in permitting the us of Double Strength Glass for the openings on the East and South Sides of the Building on the 1st Floor, instead of the regular standard Fire Proof Glass, $his motion was sect ed byralderman Peal, and was passed unanimously by the.Council;' There being no further business, alderman McRoy moved to adjourn, seconded by alderman Hosford, which was duly passed by the Council, and the Mayor declared the Counc adjourned`.' Brown; and aldermen: Bronson, Banks, Gregory, Hosford, McRoy, ileal, Sanders and Shook. Minutes of the regular meeting of August 5 were read and approved. Seconded by Alderman Banka, which was regularly passed by the Council. . Mr. Cook appeared before the Council and asked permission to rent the Garment Factory building for a Skating Rink. After discussion, alderman Sanders made a mo- tion that the matter be referred to the Water committee and water superintendent. This motion was seconded by Alderman Hosford and was passed unanimously by the Council. _ The matter of granting Mrs. L. L. Shirm6r a permit for residence on Lot 6, Block 2, Leverett addition, came up for discussion, and Alderman Sanders made a' motion that a permit be issued allowing Mrs. Shitvme)p to build not closer than 10 feet from the property line. This motion was seconded by Alderman Hosford, but before the vote was taken, Alderman Gregory asked to be excused from voting, which was granted by the Mayor. The clerk then called the roll and the following vote was recorded: Ayes, Hosford, Peal, Sanders and Shook. Nays, Bronson, Banks and McRoy. Alderman Gregory not voting, and the Mayor declared passed, as there were 4 ayes and 3 nays. At this time, the City Attorney called the attention of the Council to the fact, that Section 3 of Ordinance #x848 had not been complied with in advertising the re- quest for a building permit. The Mayor then ruled that the motion just passed was out of order. Since it was in conflict with the procedure outlined in the ordinance. There being no further business, Alderman McRoy moved to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Hosford, which was duly passed by the Council and the Mayor declared the.Coun• oil adjourned. Spencer 73.00 Alderman Hosford_made a motion that the bills be allowed, as approved. Seconded by Alderman McRoy, which was regularly passed by the Council. The Mayor stated that he had a request to attend a meeting at Harrison, Friday, September 6, relative to the proposed construction of a dam for flood control. Also, a request for representation from the City Council to attend a meeting to be held at Kansas City, Mo., Friday August 30, relative to the preparedness program. Alderman Sanders made a motion that the Mayor and any other members of the Council, who would go, should attend one or both of these meetings, with expenses paid. 'This motion was seconded by Alderman Peal and received the unanimous vote of the Council. Edmond Wages, of the Fire Department, was present and exhibited some ladders, constructed by the members of the Fire Department at a cost of $25.90, which would have cost ;172.00, if they had been purchased from the factory. Mr. Wages madea detailed report of his trip to the Firemen's School at Stillwater, Okla., and expresses his thanks to the Council for paying his expenses to the school. There being no further business, Alderman McRoy moved to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Shook, which was duly passed by the Council, and the Mayor declared the Council adjourned. Approve** mayor i ri
