HomeMy WebLinkAbout1940-08-12 Minutesi Son leman Building permitted to use lighter glass rd L'I (Regular Meeting of August 5th, continued() ra-L.L.Shirmer appeared before the Council and requested that they==rec'onaidtheir action f July l§th, with reference to a building permit for her, after discussion, alderman ronson made a motion that all members of the Council view the site of the proposed uilding and be ready to act at the next regular meeting; this motion was seconded by lderman Peal, and was passed unanimously by the Council. Alderman Gregory, stated that the Building Inspector had recommended that W.F.Sonnemi be'permitted to use a lighter type of glass in some of the openings of his new building - at . the uildingat.the corner of Dickson and University Streets, since the type of glass specified in the Building Code for buildings in the Fire Zone was too heavy for the steel frames and hardware planned to be used in some of the openings in said building, alderman McRoy made a motion that the action of the Building Inppector be ratified in permitting the u of Double Strength Glass for the openings on the East and South Sides of the Building on the 1st Floor, instead of the regular standard Fire Proof Glass, phis motion was sec ed byralderman Peal, and was passed unanimously by the.Councils' There being no further business, alderman McRoy moved to adjourn, seconded by alderman Hosford, which was duly passed by the Council, and the Mayor declared the Counc adjourned'O' P Attest 977 Approved Valty Clerk yo' Fayetteville City Council met in regular session, Monday, August 12, 1940 Present: Mayor A. D. McAllister: City Clerk, J. W. McGehee; City Attorney, Price Dickson; City Engineer, E. -T. Brown; and aldermen: Bronson, Banks, Gregory, Hosford, McRoy, ileal, Sanders and Shook. Minutes of the regular meeting of August 5 were read and approved. Seconded by Alderman Banks, which was regularly passed by the Council. Mr. Cook appeared before the Council and asked permission to rent the Garment Factory building for a Skating Rink. After discussion, alderman Sanders made a mo- tion that the matter be referred to the Water committee and Water superintendent. This motion was seconded by Alderman Hosford and was passed unanimously by the Council. _ The matter of granting Mrs. L. L. Shirmen a permit for residence on Lot 6, Block 2, Leverett addition, came up for discussion, and Alderman Sanders made a' notion that a permit be issued allowing Mrs. Shij?m-ei' to build not closer than 10 feet from the property line. This motion was seconded by Alderman Hosford, but before the vote was taken, Alderman Gregory asked to be excused from voting, which was granted by the Mayor. The clerk then called the roll and the following vote was recorded: Ayes, Hosford, Peal, Sanders and Shook. Nays, Bronson, Banks and McRoy. Alderman Gregory not voting, and the Mayor declared passed, as there were 4 ayes and 3 nays. ('......� At this time, the City Attorney called the attention of the Council to the fact, that Section 3 of Ordinance X848 had not been complied with in advertising the re- q.^.�T�(� quest for a building permit. The Mayor then ruled that the motion just passed was out of order. Since it was in conflict with the procedure outlined in the ordinance. There being no further business, Alderman McRoy moved to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Hosford, which was duly passed by the Council and the Maybr�declared the. Cour cil adjourned.
