Alderman Bronson.moved to go intib executive session, secondelk by alderman Sanders, wh
was passed unanimously and the Mayor declared the Councilin executive session, after
discussion of various administrative matters, alderman Hosford moved to go out of execu
session, seconded by alderman Sanders, which was duly passed by the Council, and the Fria
declared the Council in regular session.

Alderman Gregory, chairman of the committee, appointed to investigate facilities
for handling/and the disposal places offered by the Bidders on the Garlgage Disposal
Contractmade a detailed report of their investigations, and after discussion, alderman
Sanders made a motion that the same committee be retained to make further investigation,
and that they be given power to act in making a contract for the garbage disposal, thisf;rnt
motion was seconded by alderman Hosford, and received the unanimous vote of the Council*
here being no further business, alderman Sanders moved to adjourn, seconded
alderman ronson, which,was,duly passed by the Council,,and the Major declared the Go
adjourned. ,

Fayetteville Cityn0ouncil met in regular sessiom monday, May 27th,- 1940.
The absence of the Mayor was noted, and alderman �'regory made a motion that alderman
Sanders be elected Mayor Pro -tem, this motion was secohed by alderman Peal, and was
unanimously.
The Clerk then called the roll, and noted the following present:
City Clerk, J.W.McGehee, City Attorney, Price Dickson, City Engineer, F..T.Brown, and
aldermen; Bronson,Banks Gregory, Hosford, McRoy, Peal, Sanders and Shook
The minutes of the regular meeting of May 20th were read•and approved.

The following bills were presented, after their approval by alderman Peal, chairman of the
auditing committee: J.Shelley $7.00, Ben Porter 020.00, Elmer Boyd $13.20, hugh Pool $9:50,
Clarence Rice $10.00, Hugh Elderton 611.00, A.F.Shumate $20.00 and Otho Shumate $12.00.I
Alderman Bronson made a motion that the bills be allowed, as approved, seconded by alderman
Gregory, which was regularly passed by the Council.
Mr. W.F.Sonneman appeared before the Council and asked for a permit to move a
house from the corner of Dickson & University, across Diokson Street to a Lot purchased from
Miss Lina Reed, alderman Gregory made a motion that the Permit be granted, when the req uire.-e.ts
ments of the natural proceedure had been complied with, and that the Citcooperate with
Mr.Sonneman and his contractor in every way and that the City furnish 2 klicemen to handle
the traffic while the house was being moved, this motion was seconded by alderman McRoy;
and -was passed unanimously. -
Proctor Johnson, representing the American Legion and D.A.V. sponsored Snooker
Parlor, appeared before the Council, and asked the Council to amend the Ordinance controll-
ing Snooker Parlors; to give them power to ,limit:•thenmumber in the City, but after discission,
no action was•taken.
City Attorney, Price Dickson reported that the Suit of Earl Hand V9. the City of
Fayetteville, had been compmomised, on the following terms, Viz:that the City pay Earl Hand
the sum of $245.00 for his claim against the City for salary from August 15th, 1939 to
June lst,1940, and that the City agree to put Earl Hand Back to work as Patrolman, Junes
t, 1940
Alderman Gre cry made a motion that this agreement be ratified by the Council, and that a
warrant for 9245.00 be drawn, and paid through the Circuit Court, in full settlement of the
salary claim of Earl Hand from August 15th,1939 to June 1st, 1940, this motion was seconded'
by alderman Hosford, and received the unanimous vote of the Council.
Acting Mayor Samders, reported that he and Mayor McAllister had conferred with
Mrs.Beulah Cruse, relative to a Right-of-way across her property on West Maple Jtreet, and that
she had made a proposiyion to sell the eity 5 feet across her property for the sum of
$250..00, and the City to build a retaining wall for her, after discussion, it was decided to
postpone action till next meeting, and in the mean time the Committee would make further,
investigation.
A letter from Major Edward K. Hooper was read by the Clerk, protesting t;he
action of the Council, in contemplating requiring the active members of the National duard
to procure a City license for their privately owned cars, alderman Gregory made a motion
that the letter be received and filed, and that the matter be referred to the City Attorney
for investigation, this motion was seconded by alderman McRoy, and was passed unanimously by
the Council, (later, the City Attorney reported, That according to SECTION 9288 POPES DIGEST,
Cars with National Guard License are exempt from tate and City License)
Alderman Gregory reported that the Committee appointed to make the Garbage Dis-
posal contract, had made a verbal contract with H.G.Ward, and that he reported that he would
be ready to start operating by July 1st, 1940.
There being no further business, alderman Bronson moved to adjourn, ~r,, }-y
