Che Mayor stated that he had planned for the Street Committee and himself to go to
Little Rock the next day in the interest of a plan to pet the right-of-way straightened
ut on West 'enter Street, and asked the appprdval of the Council, alderman Carter made
motion that the Council approve the action of the Mayor.. seconded by alderman Gregory
which•received the unanimous vote of the Council.
Alderman Carterd moved that the Council go into executive session, seconded

Alderman shook made a motion that the Council accept the proposition of the
School Bor_rd with reference to leasing the "old South School Ground" for three Years,
�iith privilege of purchasing, and any amount of money paid on the lease to apply on the
urchdse'�price,if the Council should decide to purchase, any time during the term of the
ease.This irotion was sedonded by alderman Bronson, amid was passed unanimously by the

There being no further business, alderman.Sanders moved to adjourn, recon

Minutes of the regular meeting ofT-November 27th, were read,and after discussion

chool Ground , be amended to read,as follows: That the Council accept the pro

f_the School Board with reference to leasing the "Old Jefferson School Ground for a
eriod of Three (3) years at an annual payment of Two ffundred Dollars ($200.001 in advana
eginning January lat., 1940, with an option to purchase at the expiration of the Three -ye
ease, at a total purchase price of Fifteen Hundred Dollars (11500.00) and any payments
ade on lease to apply on purchase price, as advance payments, on the optional purchase

Alderman Gregory made a motion that the salary of Ben Porter be raised
�venty Dollars ($20.00) per week, beginning Monday, december 4th, 1939, this motion
s seconded by alderman Sanders, and was passed unanimouaily by the Council.
The protests.of Sigma Chi Eailding Corporation to their assessed,,$enofits
f $992.77 in Improvement 4istrict No 54 on Lot 7 &8 Block 1 of Wilson's r•irst Addition
nd the protest of Nell 6dilson Jones to her assessed benefits of x,230.92 on the ','lest
OFt of Lots 12 & 13 lock 2, and of $425.25 on Lots 1 & 2 of Block 2, and X579.33 on
he Horth 130 ft of Lot 12 Block 1 all in Wilson's r'irst Addition, were read, and after
iscussion, alderman Gregory made a motion that the following reductions be made: Viz:
"eat the Sigma Chi Building Corporation be reduced $128.27, making their assessment
364.50, and Nell Wilson Jones assessment.Sbe reduced $200.00,to be prorated, malting
or assessmentsf193.54,#356.41 and 485.55 respectively, this motion was seconded by aide
antlers, and o roll call by the Clerk, received the following vote: Ayes; Gregory,
osford,Peal, anders, Shook and Ucker. Nays: Bronson and Carter. And the Mayor declared

Alderman Gregory introduced an Ordinance, entitled "AN ORDINANCE LEVYING
S 'ESSIdENTS AGAINST REAL PROPERTY IN STREET IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO.54 OF THE CITY.
F FAYETTEVILLE,ARKANSAS.
The Ordimance was read in its entirety by the Clerk, alderman Sanders made a
ion that the rules be suspended, and the Ordinance placed on its second reading, this
ion was seconded by alderman Ucker,and received the unanimous vote of the Council
The Clerk read the Ordinance the second time, and after discussion, alderman
ronson made a motion that the rules be further suspended, and the Ordinance placed on i
hird and final reading, this motion was seconded by alderman Shook, and received the
nanimous vote of the Council.
The Clerk then read the Ordinance the Third and final time.

AN ORDIRIANCE LEVYING ASSESSMENTS AGAINST REAL PROPERTY IN STREET IMPROVEMENT
ISTR ICT NO, 54 OF TF.E CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,ARKANSAS.
WHEREAS, the majority W value of the property householders owning property
adjoining the locality to be effected, and situated in Paving Improvement District No.
of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas organized for the purpose of draining, grading,
curbing, guttering and paving and oto rwise improving streets described in the ordinance
organizing said District, have petitioned the Council of the City of Fayetteville,Arkan
for the construction of said improvement,and that the cost thereof shall be. assessed ur
the real property of said District according to benefits received;and,
INHEREAS, said benefltsreceived by each and every block,lot and parcel of real
property situated 14 said District equals or exc6yds's the local Assessments thereon;and
6HEREAS, the estimated cost of said improvement is Fourteen Thousand Six Hundr
Sixty Dollars (5714,660.00)';
THEREFORE,it is now ordained by the City Council of,Fayetteville, Arkansas•tth
said several blocks, lots and parcels of real property in said District be assessed :ce
ing to the assessment list for said improvement District as the same now remains in the
office of the City Clerk, and that ten per cent (100) on each of said blocks, lois and
rp rcels shall be paid annually ion or before the f irst,day of November until the whole o
local assessment shall be paid.
Passed and approved this 4th day of December,1939.

A letter was read from E.T.Archer & Co. of Kansas City. in which the suggestion w
that a meeting of the City Council be cal'_erl and that Mr.Archer be notified, so that he
might appear to discuss the contract and outline the future proceeddmgs.after discussi

interest of the Right=of=way. on West Centern9 treet that they had received very favorabl
