Present: Mayor., A.D.TdcAllister, City Clerk, J.W.MC@ehee, City Attorney, Price Dickson,
City Engineer, E.T?Brown, Aldermen; Carter, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook and Ucker.
Absent: Aldermen: Bronson and Gregory.
The Minutes of the regular meeting of July 10th were read and approved;
The following bills were presented, after their approval by alderman Peal, chairman of
the auditing committee: Jackson Cafe $0.90, J.W.Shelley $ 7.75, Vickers Laundry $4.25,
Paul Muller $37.50; Ark.Ice & Cold Storage Co. $3.50,N.101.Ark Times $14.66,Layman Con-

a motion that the Bills be allowed as approved, seconded by ald'erm n Sanders whichas
regularly passed by the Council.
Mr. J.R.Cooper, R.B.Chaney and miss Lula Morrow appeared before the Council
in further protest of the paving of Campbell Street, after discussion, it was decided
that the Street Committee and the Mayor meet with the Protestants Tuesday Morning at
901clock to show them just where the proposed paving would be located with reference b
to their property.
City Offices Alderman Shook made a motion that the City Offices begin closing at 1 O'Clck
to closle at on Saturday afternoon, beginning next Saturday and contdnuing through Saturday Sep-
t O'clock. tember 16th, alderman Peal seconded the motion, which received the unanimous vote of
all members of the council who were present.
There being no further business, alderman Ucker moved to adjourn, seconded
by alderman Hosford, which was duly passed by the Council, and the Mayor declared the
Council adjourned;

Alderman Carter made a motion that alderman Gregory act as Mayor Pro -tem, secondr
ed by alderman Bronson, which received the unanimous vote of the Council

Building, and after discussion, alderman Bronson introduced the following Resolution
and mdved its adoption, seconded by alderman Sanders, and on roll call by the Clerk,
received the following vote: Byes; Bronson, Gregory, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook and
Ucker. Nays; None. Absent and not voting:;Carter. And the Mayor declared adopted, as thea

WHEREAS, plans for a proposed addition to the Post Office Building of the City
Fayetteville have been presented and carefully inspected by the City Council of the
ty of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and
WHEREAS] said plans appear to be inadequate to meet the present needs and the
nticipated uses to which the said' Post Office Building'is to be put in the near future,
WHEREAS', under the proposed plans, the addition under consideration 'is estimate(
o take care of the needs of the City of Fayetteville 'for aperiod of 'ten `(10) years, and
WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that to make said addition as now
proposed would seriously jeopardize h(sing facilities of Federal Agencies now existing
nd anticipated in the near future, and would constitute an unsightly struture in the hea
bf the business district.

NOVIsTHEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the Ci#y of Fayetteville,
rkaAxthat the plans as submitted be set aside, and that a 'request be made to the proper
ederal officials for plans and specifications for a new Post Office and Federal Building:

The Mayor stated that the Hi h -way Department w&&* very anxious to have Th6rd
treet extended and had asked the CityAelp in securing the RibjWof Way, after discussion,
lderman Shook made a motion that.the Street Committee work with a committee from the Chamber
f Commerce in trying to secure this Right of Way, seconded by alderman Hosford, which received,
he unanimous vote of the Coubeil. I
The Mayor mentioned the need of a Lot for storage space for the Street depar
nd the Water Department, and stated that there was such a Lot avaia,_ le just South of H

You wiil recall that we have emphasized this need(( for several years,
nowing full well that the City was financially unable to do the work, hence we do appreciate
ully the service you are rendering in constructing the side -walk ment(boned: From the pont
f service to pupils, there was no greater need through -out the entire City, for severa
undred trips are made daily by pupils along Third Street. In addition, it es a benefit to %b
esidential property in that part of the City, where there is a limited amount of side-wfLlks.

Alderman Ucker presented a Financial report of the City Hospital, from July 1st 1938 tof
July 1st 1939, Alderman Peal made a mo$ion that the report be'recedived and filed, seconded by
alderman Bronson, which was passed unanimously by the Council.
There being no further business,alderman Sanders mmved to adjourn, seconded by A derman
Ucker, which was dulyp passed by_the Council, and the Mayor declared the Council adjourned.
