Minutes of the adjourneel session of January 3rd, were read and approved.
The dollowing bills were presented, after their approval by alderman Peal, chairman of
the auditing committee: Jackson Cafe $7.80, Salusbury General Shop $1.000 Ark.Weatern
Bills; Co. $ 85.17, R.C.Wray $ 53,85, North West Ark. Times $$10.92, Eureka Fire Hose Division
of U.S.Rubber Co. $1274.009 Ark. Western Gas Co. $1811,73, S.W.Gas & Electric Co. $337,5
$19.42,and $11.069 Lewis Bros Co.$2,120 Fayetteville Lumber'& Cement Coe:34.36,Lewis
Bros Co. $1.34, Ben Porter $17.50, Elmer Boyd $10.009 Bud Collins $10.00, Sanford and
Son $1.63, AF.Shumate, $20.00, and Willie Wilcox, $12.00. Alderman Sanders made a mo-
tion that the bills be allowed,as approved, seconded by alderman Bronson, which was
duly passed by the Council.
Alderman Hosford made a motion that a resolution, be drawn, designating parking,,_,,
spaces for five cars for the two local Taxi Companies, three o these spaces for each Wd
be at the present headquarters of the Companies and two each be on East Street, jus
off the Square. alderman Peal seconded the motione.which received the unanimous vote of
all members of the Uouncil, present.
Offer of An offer of the Royal Crown Bottling Co. to place markers in KM pedestpian lane
without cost to the City, but containing the Companyfs emblem as an advertisem)Rnt, was
Royal Crown presented and after discussion, alderman Carter made a motion that the matter be referr
Bottiling'Co. to the Steeet committee, alderman Hosford seconded the motion, and on roll call by the
Cletk, received the following vote: SM Ayes; Bronson, Carter, Hosford Peal and Shook.
Nays; Sanders and Uckere-and the Mayor declared carried, as.there were 5Ayes, and 2 Nay
Letters were read from Mrs. B.J.Dunn and H.O.Davis „ Submitting prices on their
Le titers of houses and lots, asrpossible sites for a Market place and Rest R000m; alderman Bronson
made amotion thatthe letters be received and filed, seconded by alderman Peal , which
rseB.J.Dunn was duly passed by the Council.

w An inquiry from the American Legion as to-ime posssible sale of the Garment Fact
by the City, was presented by the'Mayor, alderman Sanders made a motion that the i4a:
matter be referred to the Water Committtee for recommedation, seconded by alderman Pea.
which was duly passed by the.Counwil.
A letter was read from the Community Chest, expressing appreciation for use of
the Council Chambers as headquarters during the Chest drive.
Te.lel3ram A telegram from U.S.Senatore John E.Miller was read, calling attention to a publ
hearing to be held at Harrdson, Ark.January, 10th, by U.S.District Engineer, seeking in
John E.IMiller formation on extent of flood damage below reservoir sdtes , on White River and its trib
utaries, and amount•of electric power that might be consumed by this community, if powe:
is developed at the proposed dams.and suggesting that a representative be sent.for the
hearing. No action was'taken by the Council.
There being no further business, Alderman Shook moved to adjourn, seconded by
alderman Bronson,which was rggularly passed by the Council. and the Mayor declared the
Council adjourned. (�

and Willie Wilcox $12.00. Alderman Udker made a motion that the bills be allowed,as
approved, seconded by alderman Carter, which was duly•passed by the Council.

The City of Fayetteville, XJfKKhAKXX State of Arkansas, hereinafter referrXedffi to
as the City, and the Arkansas Highway Department, hereinafter referred to as the High-
way Department, hereby.agrees as.follows:
1,That the Highway Department will submit a project for the improvement of 0.118
,miles of the city street highway from Fayetteville to Huntsville, known as missionvenue,
and to be designated as F,e+,S, Project Noe 36-B (1), and will recommend its approval by
the*Secretary of Agriculture for construction with funds apportioned to the State under
the Federal Highway Act as amended and supplemented; subject, however,.to the condition
that the City of Fayetteville shall provide for its proper maintenance after completion
of its improvement,
2.'That the said city 'of Fayetteville hereby requests the.H(ghway Department -to
submit the aforementioned project with recommendation that it be al3proved by the Secret
ry of Agriculture, and agrees that if such project is approved and constructed by the
Highway Department and the Secretary of Agriculture,. it thereafter, at its own cost and
expense, will maintain the project in a manner satisfactory to them, or theirauthorized
representatives, and will make ample provision each year for such maintainance,

,ittle Rock last week to attend the meeting of the Arkansas Municipal League, which is
laking an effort to secure a small per cent of the gasoline turnback money for use ffXXXof

Alderman Sanders, chairman of the Street committee, recdmriended that the

'used, Alderman Hosford made a motion that khe report be received and accepted, seconded
iy alderman Peal, which was regularly passed by the Council.
The Clerk read the four bids submittedlrelative to the purchase of a new
ruck for the Street Department, and after disncussion, alderman Peal made a motion that
he bid submitted by the Philipps motor Co. on an International Truck be accepted, subject
o the approval of the Board of Public:Affairs, alderman Gregory seconded the motion, and

The minutes of the previous meetingof January 16th, were dispensed with, and the
Clerk read the following protests of Property owners in Improvement district No,47, to
their assessment, in this district; which had been filed inith the Clerk on January, 6th,
1939 The St.Louis Sanfraneisoo Railway Co., Hugh M,Lawson,D,Y.Holcomb, G.T.Sanders,
L.Passarelli,MargaretfiGalloway, and Karl&Bonnie Gieenha*,
After discussion, german Gregory made a motion that the 'Railway Co, be granted
time untill January, 30th,,,o make a survey and gather some more information relative to
the improvement district, alderman Hosford seconded the motion, which received the unanimous
vote of the Council,
