Fayetteville City Council Met in adjourned sessimn, Tuesday, January 3rd, 1939

Present: Present: Mayor, A.D.McAllistea, City Clerk, J..McGehee, City Attorney, Pricen Dickson.,
City Engineer, E.T.Brown, Aldermen: Bronson, Gregory, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook and! Ucker.
Absent; Alder Carter.
Minutes of the adjourned session of December the 27th, were read and approved.
The following bills were presented, after their approval by alderman Peal, chairman of
Minutes; the auditing committee:

Alderman Bronson made a motion that the bills be allowed as approved „ and the Clerk be
instructed t o draw warrants for the same, upom the proper funds, seconded by alderman Ucker,
which was duly passed by the Council.
The report of the Water Department, for the month of December, was read by the Clerk, Ind
alderman Ucker made a motion that the report be received and filed, seconded by alderman
,opal, which was regularly passed by the Counvil.
Several of the Cab Drivers were present, with reference to places to be assigned to $chem,
in enforcing Ordinance no. 822, and after a general discussion, it was decided to let the committe
have another week for investigation.
The Clerk read a letterX from Davis P.Richardson, suggesting that the Council invettigate
the proposition of establishing a "Town Forest". alderman Sanders made a motion that the
letter be received and _filed, seconded by alderman Bronson, which was passed in the regular way.
Alderman Sanders made a motion that the Real Estate License for 1938, be refunded to
W.J.Lewis,A.R.Mintun and L.O.Aumick, and that no further Real estate license be Collected by the
Clerk, seconded by aldermanBronson, and on roll call received the unanimous vote of all

members of the ConcilN, present.
Alderman Bronson introduced the fol&owing Resolution and moved its adoption.
RESOLUTION.
WHEREAS, the gasoline tax has een evied on motor vehicle owners for 17 years
for their use of imgroved highways and streets; and
WHEREAS, surveys of the U.S.Bureau of public Roads have indicated that streets
municipalities bear 30% of the total vehicular traffic; and
WHEREAS, municipal streets, therefore, have actually earned 30% of the gasoline tax receipts,
none of which have been used to maintain City Streets;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED That we,the City Council of the City of Fayetteville; A
Arkansas,in expressing the sentiments of the motor vehicle owners and citizens of the City
of Fayetteville, Arkansas, do hereby memorialize Governor Carl E.Bailey and the members of
the General Assembly to remedy this unfair distribution of the gasoline tax receipts by
returning a reasonable share of the gasoline tax for the improvement and maintenance of
thedr streets.
Alderman Peal secondedthe motion; and on roll call by the Clerk, the ollow-
vote was recorded; Ayes; Bronson. Gregory. Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook and Ucker y^ sent
and not voting; Carter* and the Mayor declared the motion -carried , as there were 7 Ayes
and no nays.

�aph Alderman Shook made a motion,that the Street Committee ask for bids on a new
truck,both with the dump bed and without, and the best bid on the old truck to be
traded in with dump bed and also wtthout,alderman Brohson seconded the motion, and
on roll call by the Clerk was passed unanimously.
