There being no further business, Alderman Carter moved to adjourn, Alder- man Peal seconded the motion, which carried unanimously, and the Mayor declared the Council adjourned. Acting Chief Of Police, Earl Hand presented the proposition of needing bars over the windows of the office of the Chief of Police, and Alderman Ucker made a motion that matter be referred t6 the building committee for investigation, and that they be empowered to act. Procter JohJmson and John Ballard appeared before the Council on behalf of the American Legion and the D.A.V., who are sponsoring a carnival on the "Stone" lot this week, and asked that the Council rescind the price of the privilege tax for same. And alderman Ucker made a motion that their request be granted, alderman Sanders seconded the motion, which was passed unanimously by the Council, and the Mayor so declared. Prof. Merriweather appeared before the Council, and presented the proposition I of paving Cleveland street and Garland avenue, and askedfor aid from the City, to the amount of $625.00, to be applied on the cost of paving Garland ave., with the under,, )*standing that XNAXX the County would pay the same amountsand balance to be paid by the „ property owners. r Alderman XXXAN Bronson made a motion that the matter be referred tdDi the Mayor, City Attorney, and the chairman of the street committee for investigation, and report at the next regular meeting of the Council. This motion was seconded by alderman Peal, and on roll call by the Clerk, was passed unanimously. The report of the Commissioners of Patring District No. 35 was read by the Clerk and after discuss ion by the Council,it was decided to defer action to ne-Vt regular meeting of the Council. A letter% was read by the Clerk, from the Civic Committee of Chamber of Cpmmerce..who had been appointed to secure options on tracts of land, proposed to be used tM sites for Parks;. This report showed, that the committee had secured prices on two proposed sites,with two others to,(kard from at an early date. Amotion was made by alderman Sanders and seconded by, cker that the report be:, received and filed, and on roll call by the dierk was passed unanimously. A letter was read by the Clerk, from'the Department of Public Utilities) addressed to the "Mayor of Fayetteville'; Arkansas, notifying him of a hearing, to be held in LittlO. Ronk, Ark., in the offices of the Department oC Public Utilities, on Friday,July 29th, I938,at 2.30 P.M., with reference to the application of the South Westerb Gas & Electric Co., and the Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co. for a certificate of convenience and necessity; to construct a 66,000 volt transmission line, between Fayetteville and Vanburen, Arkans; ' i City Inspctor, Clyde Walters, reported that a vacancy had occurred on the Electrical s Examining Board, caused by F.L.Morgan of the South Western Gas & Electric Co. having been transferred from here, and suggested, that Marvin Murphy, of the South Western Gas & Electric Co.,be appointed to take Mr.Morgan's place. Alderman Ucker made a 1 motion that Marvin Murphy be appointed, seconded by alderman Carter, and on the questio being put before the council, received the unanimous vote, and the Mayor so declared. Aldermmn Sanders introduced an ordinance entitled " AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE MORE SANITARY AND EFFICIENT METHODS (FOR DISPOSAL OF GARBAGE, KITCHEN REFUSE, TIN CANS; DISCARDED GLASS, ETC.,AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES". The Clerk read the Ordinance in it, entirety, the first time. Alderman Sanders Moved that the rules be suspended and "rhe Ordinance placed on its second reading* This motion was seconded by alderman Carter, and upon the Clerk calling the roll) t1le following vote resulted; Ayes: Aldermen Broson,Carter, Hosford, Peal,Sanders, Shook and Ucker. Absent and not voting:Alderman' Gregory. The Mayor declared the motion carried, as there were 7 Ayes. and no Nays. Alderman Shook made a motion yhat the Ordinance Committee, prepare an Ordinanc e7(tend- ing the Fire Zone on the North side of Dilrkson Street, beginning at Rollston Street and extending East, to the West line of Dyke Bros* property, and extending North from Dickson Street, a distance of IBI.8 Ft., over this area. Alderman Ucker seconded the motion, which was duly fassed by the Council. There being no further business,alderman Carter moved to adjourn, alderman Hosford seconded the motion,which carried unanimously, and the Mayor declared the Council ? adjourned.
