McAllister, City Clerk Otoe Phillips, City Attorney Price Dickson, City En, E. T. Brown, Aldermen; Bronson, Carter, Gregory, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook and Ucker. Minutes of the regular meeting held April 18, 1938, were read and approved. Bills; The following bills were presented after their approval by Alderman Peal, Chaimarn of the Auditin Committee; Coles Cafe $7.10, J. W. Shelley $10.75, Lyons Loch Co $$1.28, Ben Porber 17.50, Bud Collins $$11.00, Emmett Boyd $4.00, Jack Von Berg I�)10.00, Be E. Tune $11.50, M. S. Gabbard $$34.18, A. F. Shumate $$20.00, Bill Wilcox $$12.00, National Fire Pro Ass'n $3.00. Alderman Hosford moved that the bills be allowed as approvekand the Clerk be instructed to draw warrants for same upon the proper funds. Alderman Car- ter seconded the motion which carried unanimously and the Mayor so declared. The matter of a lower rate for sprinkling was again discussed. Alderman Sanders moved that the matter be referred tocthe Water Committee with power to act. Alderman Ucker seconded the motion which received the unanimous vote of the Council. Mayor McAllister mentioned to the Council that the Women's Clubs are asking for some assurance that their location would by permanent in the Administration Building. After discussion Alderman Ucker moved that the Building Committee prepare a resolution relative to the Womens Clubs occupancy of the offices. Alderman Bronson seconded the motion which received the unanimous vote of the Council. Drainage of City Park pool during the summer was again discussed. Alderman Sanders moved that the City pay $50.00 on this expense. Alderman Bronson seconded the motion. On the. Clerk's calling the roll the following vote resulted; Ayes: Bronson, Sanders, Ucker. Nays; Carter, Gregory, Hosford, Peal, Shook. The Mayor declared the motion lost as there were 3 Ayes and 5 Nays. Acting Chief of Police Earl Hand spoke of pay telephones and certain inconveniences relative -to same. Alderman Bronson moved tha t the matter be refferredto the Utility Committee. Alderman Ucker seconded the motion which received the entire vote of the Council. A motion to adjourn made by Alderman Ucker and seconded by Alderman Hosford was duly passed by the Council and the Mayor declared the Council adjourned. on /� c Attest; Approved;- _ City C erk. The motion was seconded by Alderman Shook and carried unanimously. Aldermen Sanders and Ucker of the Street Committee reported that widening East Maple would be too expensive for the City to undertake at this time. The Committee suggested that East Lafayette might be opened easier and with less cost. Chaiman Sanders said widening the street would not eliminate the danger of the intersection of Maple and Mission. Alderman Bronson of the Street Committee spoke of the liklihood of accidents at this intersection. A petition was presented by Steve Ratliff signed by 110 merchants and business men asking that XKXdhXXff htX the order nfg eSgent of the law prohibiting parking on the streets in the business distric"rio££ enforced. Alderman Sanders moved that the order of enforcement be rescinded. Alderman Bronson seconded the motion which received the unanimous vote of the Council. A communication from the Commissioners of Sewer Improvement Districts was read to the Council. No action was taken. The matter of cards for car marker was discussed. Alderman Ucker moved that red cards be made up, City Attorney to frame. Alderman Bronson seconded the motion which carried unanimously. Alderman Gregory introduced XN a resolution as follows; L I12 IL Resolution. � Whereas, there is available space in the City Administration Building of the City of Fayetteville for suitable club rooms for various womens civic organizations and Whereas, it is the desire of the City of Fayetteville to provide space for said civic organizations IM so long as it is available; Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Fayetteville that the two north west suites of rooms on the second floor of the City Administration Building be and the same are hereby designated as club rooms for the City Council of the PTA 332 of the City of Fayetteville; the Women's Civic Club and the Business and Professi&nal Women's Club and that the use of said rooms shall be without charge to said clubs. Alderman Bronson moved that the resolution be adopted. Alderman Ucker seconded the mo- tion which carried unanimously and the Mayor so declared. Alderman Bronson seconded the motion which carried unanimously and the Mayoib so declared. Dr. D. L. Mallory, Tom Butt, and Van Albertson, law school students, appeared before th Council with an ordinance which would prohibit placing of pay telephones in business where they were not desired. After discussion Alderman Sanders made a motion that the Mayor name a Committee of three to meet with the students for study of the ordinance and report findings. Alderman Shook seconded the motion which carried unanimously. The Mayor named as this Committee Aldermen Sanders, Hosford and Bronson. Plans for the state fire school to be held May 13 were discussed by He A, Ritgerod of the Arkansas Municipal League and Carl Smalley travelling fire instructor. Alderman Sanders moved that necessary bills for expenses up to $25.00 be sent to the Council by. the Fire Chief. Alderman Hosford seconded the motion which received the unanimous vote oto the Council. The matter of a house on 4th street east of School built in the street was called to th attention of the Council. By motion of Alderman Bronson seconded by Alderman Carter the matter was referred to the street committee. The matter of parking on the square was carr&ed over until next Monday night, Alderman Peal moved that the Council go into executive session. Alderman Shook second the motion, which was duly passed by the Council. After discussion of various matters Alderman Hosford moved that they go out of executive session. Alderman Peal seconded the motion which was duly passed by the Council. The Mayor declared the Council in regular session. Alderman Ucker moved that the Street Committee offer Fulbright Investment Company $3500.00 for the building on the southwest corner of West and Lafayette Sts. if the bridge is built or $1000.00 damages. The motion was seconded by Alderman Hosford. On the Clerks calling the roll the following vote resulted: Ayes:- Bronson, Hosford, Sanders, Shook, Ucker. Nays:- Carter, Peal. Absent and not voting, Gregory. The May declared carried as there were five Ayes and two Nays.
