Fayetteville City Council met in regular session Monday, April 1821938.
Present;) Mayor A. D. McAllister, City Clerk Otoe Phillips, City Attorney Price Dickson, City En
E. T. Brown; Aldermen; Carter, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook, and Ucker. Absent; Alder
men Bronson and Gregory.
Minutes of the regular meeting held Anribl 11, 1938, were read an$ approved.
Bills; The following bills were presented after their approval by Alderman Peal, Chairman of
the Auditing Committee; Coles Cafe $11.40, B. E. Tune $9.50, Jack Von Ber 11.50,
Emmett Boyd $ 10.00, Bud Collins $11.50, Ben Porter $17.50,, West & Bloyd $2.25, M. L.
Price X65.00, Salsbury Gen. Shop u2.009 A. F., Shumate, $20.1)0, Bill Wilcox $12.00.
Alderman Carter moved that the bills be allowed as approved and the clerk be instructec
to draw warrants for same upon the proper funds. Alderman Hosford seconded the motion
which received the entire vote of the Council present and the Mayor so declared.
A petition :vas presented by Rev. S. M. Yancey, signed by a number of property owners,
asking that Maple Street be widefiedl'at the inter section of Maple and Mission leading
Eastward. After discussion Alderman Carter moved that the petition be received and fi-
led and the matter referred to the Street Committee. Alderman Peal seconded the motion
which received the entire vote of the Council present.
M. B. Slade appeared before the Counsil relative to firemens Insuranse. Alderman Peal
moved that the matter be referred to the Insurance Committee. alderman Hosford second
the motion which received the entire vote of the Council present .
Alderman Carter introduced an ordinance entitled "An ordinance renaming certain street:
within the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, creating a new ward line between wards two
and three and for other purposes". The Ordinance was read the first time in its entirel
by the Clerk. Alderman Ucker moved that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be

be further suspended and the ordina e be placedon its third and final reading. Alder-
man Ucl%er seconded the motion which received the entire vote of the Council present;
and the Clerk then read the ordinance the third and final time. The Mayor then put the
question "Shall the ordinance pass". On the Clerks calling the roll the following vote
resulted Ayes; Carter, Hosford, Peal, Shook, and Ucker. Nays None; Absent and not
voting; Bronson, Gregory, and Sanders.
Ordinance 806
An Ord nee to be entitled "an ordinance renaming certain streets within the City of
Fayett� ille, Arkansas, creating a new ward line between wards two and three and for
other purposes".
Whereas, confusion has.arisdn by reason of the fact that North College Avenue and
Springdale Highway do not coincide from Prospect Street north to the north City limits,
and it is desirable to re -name Springdale Highway and to make it the dividing line be-
tween wards two and three in the City of Fayetteville, Arkanse-ts:
Now, Therefore, be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Ark-
ansas;
Section One. That the Street now designated upon the official plat of the•City of Fay-
etteville, Arkansas, from Prospect Street north to the north city limits as "Spring-
dale Highway" be and the same is hereby designated and re -named and shall be a contin-
uation of "North College Avenue".
Section Two. The avenue running north from Prospect Street to the north City limits
now designated upon the official plat of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, as "North
College Avenue" is hereby re -named and designated as"Pollard Avenue".
Section Three. North College Avenue as herein established shall be the dividing line
between Wards ilvo and `Three ir: th- City of FayeL-tevil.l.e.
Section Four. All ordinances anci ,arts of or,linance^ in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed and this ordinance being necessary for the convenience of the residents of
the City of Fayetteville, an emergency is hereby declared and this ordinance shall be
in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication.

Alderman Shook moved the adoption of the emergency clause. Alderman Peal seconded the
motion which received the entire vote of the Council present.
Reports The following reports were presented for the month of March; Clyde Walters as Building
of Inspector and as Fire Chief, J. C. Massie as Police Judge, Otoe Phillips as City Clerk
Officials:and Cibty Collector. Roy Nix Sevier Service Collector. Alderman Hosford moved that the
reports be received and filed. Alderman Carter seconded the motion which received the
entire vote of the Council present.
Alderman Ucker moved that the Council go into executive session. The motion was secon-
ded by Alderman Peal and duly passed by the Council, and the Mayor declared the Council
in executive session. After discussion of various matters Alderman Sanders moved that
the Council go out of executive session. Alderman Ucker seconded the motion which was d
d.uly passed by the Council and the Mayor declared the Council in regular session.
The matter of drainage of City Park Poml was discussed. Alderman Sanders moved that t
matter he referred to the Superintendent and Water Committee. Alderman Ucker seconded
the motion which carried and the Mayor so declared.
A motion to adjourn made by Alderman Sanders and seconded by Alderman Ucker was duly
passed by the
Council and the Mayor declared the Council adjourned.
