Minutest of the previous meeting held Monday September 27, 1937 were read and approved. Bills: The following bills were presented after their approval by Alderman Peal, Chairman of the Auditing Committee: Southwest Gas & Electric Co. $$331.40; Star Printing Co. 51;22.40; Jackson Cafe 03.75; J V! Shelley p21.00; Lewis Bros, Co N25.64; Southwest Gas & Electril Co. $7.47; D. A. Burson 5x1.50; Southwest Gas & Electric Co. $9.17; Dr. Richard Gl. Report Report of the City Plater Plant for the month of September was presented, Alderman of Carter moved that the report be received and filed, seconded by Alderman Peal, and City carried unanimously. After discussion, Alderman Sanders moved that the use of the tractor be allowed. This motion was seconded by Alderman Shook and"upon the motion be put bei'ore the Council resulted in the following vote: Ayes: Hosford, Sanders and Shook. Nays: x3txxxxxx Bronson, Carter, Gregory, Peal. and Ucker. Mayor McAllister declared the motion lost as there were three Ayes and five Nays. Tax Levy:. The matter of the.Ci ty Tax Levy for the year 1937 was brought before the Council. The Finance.Committee recommended the following levy for the various funds: General 5 Mills / Fire 22 " ✓ Bond 3 Hospital 1 " Aviation Nothing for present year. After discussion, Alderman Bronson moved that the recommendation of the Finance Committe be accepted, seconded by Alderman Peal and.upon"the:question'lbeing put before the Counci the following vote resulted: Ayes: Bronson, Carter, Gregory, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook and Ucker. Nays: None, The Mayor declared the motion carried a�s there were eight Ayes and no Nays. TAX LEVY FOR 1937 1W' To levy Taxes for the year 1937 upon the Real and Personal property within the Corporate limits of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas. BE IT RESOLVED by the CITY COUNCIL of the CITY of FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS; SECTION ONE: That the rate of Taxes for CITY GENERAL FUND purposes, for the year 1937, be, and the same is hereby declared to be E MILLS on each dollar of assessed valuation of all real and personal property within the corporate limits of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, as shown by the Assessment Books for State and County purposes, and that the same is hereby levied: and the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to certify this Levy to the.County Clerk of Washington County, Arkansas,to the end that the same be placed on the Tax Books and collected with the State and County taxes. SECTION TVIO:That the rate of Taxes for FIRE DEPARTMENT purposes, for the year 1937, be, and the same is hereby declared to be TWO AND ONE HALF (21) MILLS on each dollar of assessed valuation of all real and persona property within the corporate limits of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, as shown by the Assessment Books for State and County' purposes, and that the same is hereby levied; and the Mayor and the City Clerk are hereb authorized and directed to certify'this,Levy to the County Clerk of Washington County, Arkansas, to the end tV \the same be placed on the Tax Books and collected with the State and County taxes,/ •r ' SECTION THREE:Thqt'the rate of taxes for CITY FUNDING.BONDScand,THE INTEREST THEREOdd-Be,i and the same is' hereby declared to be THREE (3) &liLLS on each dollar of assessed valua- tion.of real and personal property within the corporate limits of the City of Fayettevil Arkansas, as shown by the Assessment Books for State and County purposes, and the same i hereby levied; and the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to certif this levy to the County Clerk of !ashington County, Arkansas, to the end that the same may be placed on the Tax Books and collected with the State and County taxes. 3ECTIVN FOUR: That the rate of taxes for CITY HOSPITaL purposes, for the year 1937, be, and the same is hereby declared to be ONE (1) MILL on each dollar of assessed valuation if all real and personal property Within the Corporate limits of the City of Fayette- ville, Arkansas„ as shown by the Assessment Books for State and County purposes, and thl I 308 same is hereby levied; and the Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to certify this Levy to the County Clerk of Washington County, Arkansas, to end that the same may be placed on the Tax Books and collected with the State and County taxes. Alderman Bronson moved that the matter be referred to the Insurance Committee for investigation and to report back. This motion was seconded by Alderman Gregory and received the unanimous vote of the Council. The matter of repairs on the Eason Building Northwest corner of Meadow and Block street; same being raithin the Fire Zone, rias discussed. Alderman Bronson moved that the matter be referred to the Fire Committee and Building Inspector. This motion was seconded by Alderman Peal, and upon the question being put before the Council resulted in the following vote: Ayes: Bronson, Carter, Gregory, Hosford, Peal, Shook and Ucker. Nays: Sanders, The Mayor declared carried as there were seven Ayes and one Nay. Alderman Gregory moved that the Ordinance Committee be instructed to draw up a Resolution abolishing the present office of SuperintendSnt of City Plater Plant. This motion was seconded by Alderman Sanders and upon the question bring put before the Council resulted in the following vote: Ayes: Bronson, Carter, Gregory, Hosford,Peal, Sho6k,".U6ker'-and Sanders. Nays: None. The Mayor declared carried as there were eight Ayes and no Nays. There being no further business, Alderman Hosford moved to adjourn, seconded by Alderm Gregory and carried unanimously., and the Mayor declared the Council adjourned. Minutes of the regular meeting held Monday, October 4tr, 1937, were read and approved. Bills; The following bills were presented after their approval by Alderman Peal, Chairman of the Auditing Committee; Jackson Cafe 4.10, Woodcraft Shop $0.50, Arkansas Western Gas Co. $7.06, North West Arkansas Times 83.64, Ross Seasley $8.00, Ben Porter $17.50 Emmett Boyd $1.25, Phillips Motor Co. $9.50, Heerwagen Bros $0:51, The Texas Co. 612.32 A. F'. Shumate $20.00. Alderman Bronson moved that the bills be allowed as approved and the Clerk be instructed to draw warrants for same upon the proper funds. The motion was seconded by Alderman Carter and received the unanimous vote of the Uouncil. A_petition protesting operation of a skating rink in the Griffin building on West Dick- son Street signed by a number of residents in the neighborhood was presented. After discussion the matter was carried over for further consideration. The matter of correcting the Ordinance relative to driving while drunk was called to the attention of the Council by the Mayor. Alderman Peal moved that the Ordinance Committee be instructed to draw up an Ordinance to amend said Ordinance making it comply with State laws. Alderman Ucker seconded the motion which carried unanimously. A motion to adjourn made by Alderman Sanders and seconded by Alderman Ucker was duly passed by the Council and the Mayor declared the Council adjourned.
