Fayetteville City Council met in regular session Monday, February 15th,1937.
Present Mayor YcAlliSter, City Clerk Otoe Phillips; City Attorney Price Dickson,City Engineer
C. E. Pierce. Aldermen: Bronson, Carter, Gregory, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook.Absent:
Alderman Ucker.
Idinutes of the regular meeting held February 8th, were read. and approved.
Bills. The following bills were presented after their approval by Alderman Peal, Chairman of

Alderman Gregory moved th t the bills be allowed as approved and the Clerk be instruct-
ed to draw warra nts for same upon the properfunds. Alderman Bronson seconded the motion
which received the tire vote of the council present and the Mayor so declared.
Reports I The following reports for the month of January, 1937,were presented; Clyde 'halters as
of Fire Chief, J. C. I.fassie as Police Judge, Otoe. Phillips as City Clerk and 'is Collectel
Officials; also the annual report for the year 1936, and copy of the Audit of the City Water
Plant, Alderman Sanders moved that the reports be received and filed. Alderman Shook
seconded the motion which carried unanimously and the Mayor so ordered.
A list of Office equipment to be purchased from E. M. Ratliff Estate at the low fig -
E h, ure of $95.00 was presented. After discussion Alderman Bronson moved that this pur-

equipmen.: Mayor McAllister extended an invitation to the Council from the City Library Board
to attend the opening in their new quarters in the ne:v City Building on Feb. 22nd.
This being the night for regular Council meeting, Alde*man Gregory moved that the
Council meeting be postponed till Tuesday, Feb. 23rd. The motion was seconded by
Alderman Hosford and received the entire vote of the Council present.
A F Shu- The matter of extra expenses to A. F. Shumate in hauling City prisoners to and from
mate e, work was brought to the attention of the Council. After discussion Alderman Sanders
extra moved that an additional $2.50 per week be XdXKXX A XXAX allowed A. F. Shumate to
allowane `take care of this extra expense till further notice. The motion was seconded by Alder
man Carter and carried unanimously.
Alderman Bronaon moved that the Council go into executive session. Alderman Shook
seconded the motion which was duly passed by the Council and the Mayor declared the
Council in executive session. After discussion of various matters, Alderman Gregory
moved that the Council go out of executive sepsion. Alderman Peal seconded the mo-
tion which was duly passed by the Council and the Mayor declared the Council in reg-
ular session.
No further business Alderman Bronson moved to adjourn. Alderman Shook seconded. the
motion which carried and the Mayor declared the Council adjourned.

Cut J. T. Wright asked permission to make sewerAat 620 North Leverett st., and W. S.
Pavement; Duggans asked permission to cut pavement for makzigr, sewer connection on East Spring
Street for J. C. Massie and for masking seder and water connection for Continental
Oil,Company at Crest Dickson and Locust streets. Alderman Ucker moved that these
permits be granted under supervision of City Engineer, seconded by alderman Sanders,
and carried unanimausly,

Reads The report of D. W. Read as City Inspector was read by the Clerk. Alde^man Carter made
T?eport; a motion that the report be received and filed. Alderman Peal seconded the motion
which received the unanimous vote of the Council.
P "' A The matter (f bill pending in the Legislature as to PW.: aid in Municipally owned
8: Utilities was discussed. Alderman Gregory moved that the Mayor wire the Legislators
lunicipal_urging passage of the bill as being sanctioned by the Council. Alderman Peal seconded

The purchase of Machine and equipment for repairing pavements was discueed at length.
:Tacrine Alderman Gregory moved that the Street Dept and the City Engineer be authorized to
7en�ir of purchase such machine at a cost of $285.00, also necessary equipment and materials
)avinge. for operating. Alderman Carter seconded the motion which carried unanimously.
No further business Alderman Ucker moved to adjourn. Alderman Gregory seconded the
motion which was duly passed by the Council and the Mayor declared the Council adjourne

W. S•. Campbell and Bert Lewis of the Cr amber of Commerce appeared before the Council
Road
with reference to the condition of roads leading into the City, stating that the County
Repair
is without funds to do necessary work on roads and that the Chamber of Commerce had

expended $100.00 and asking the City to appropriate a like amount to continue needed
repairs. After XXXAhXiM discussion Alderman Sanders moved that the City donate such

amount from Street Fund up to $100.00 as necessary to make such repairs. Alderman Peal

seconded the motion. On the Clerks calling the roll the following vote resulted; Ayes;
Bronson, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Ucker. Nays; Carter, Gregory, Shook. The Mayor de-
clared the motion carried as there were 5 ayes and 3 nays.
The matter of City Civil Service .,ias brought up for discussion. Alderman Hosford moved
that the City send the City Attorney and the Fire Chief to Little Rock to see what
could be worked out to the best interests of the City. Alderman Gregory seconded the
motion which carried unanimously.
No further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Alderman Bronson, seconded by
Alderman Sanders, and duly passed by the Council, and the Mayor declared the Council
adjourned.
