Fayetteville City•Gouncil met in regular session Monday July 27,1936, 8: 00 P. M.
Present: Mayor A. D. McAllister,City Clerk Otoe Phillips, City Engineer C. E. Pierce. Aldermen
Bronson, Carter, Gregory, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook: tand Ucker. Absent: City Atty.,
Price Dickson.
Minutes of the regular meeting July 20th,1936, were read and approved.
Bills: The following bilis were presented after their approval by Alderman Peal, Chairman of
The Auditing Committee: Skelley Oil Company $41.90; Bohe Grocery $1.67; Fred Eden $5.0
W. 1°I. Harrison $1.25; Geo. Waggoner `p10.00; Jim Gibhon�i $12.00;, A. F. Shumate $20.00;
Ben rorter $17.50; Alderman Bronson moved that thr)se bills be allowed as approved' and
the Clerk instructed to issue warrants upon the proper funds in payment of same,
seconded by Alderman Shook, and carried unanimously.
June Reports for the month of June from City Clerk and Gity Inspector were read. Alderman
Reports: Sanders moved that these reports be received and filed, seconded by Alderman Hosford
and carried unanimously.,
est The Clerk read report of assessors of West Meadow Improvement District. No action

Alley Frank Barr who owns property in the Block was present and stated that the alley had

The Clerk read a letter from Pdrs h. G. Paddock, stating that a fine of $1.00 for
aver time parking had been incorrectly assessed, and asking that the Council order.:a
refund of same. Alderman Gregory moved that the matter be referred to the Police
Judge, seconded by Alderman Sanders and carried unanimously.

The Mayor presented a request from the Drought Relief Cb mmittee for space in the
City's new building for a few weeks. Alderman Carter moved that this matter be left
to.". the Mayor with power to act, seconded by Alderman Hosford, and carried unanimous
Earl Hand,.Aeting,'Chief of Police reported that while he was using W. E. Gregg's car
City's business,he had an accident which cost $7.00 to repair. Alderman Ucker moved
that the City pay this $7.00, seconded by Alderman Peal, and carried unanimausly.
There being no, further business, Alderman Hosford moved to adjourn, seconded by
Alderman Ucker, and carried unanimously.

The following bills were presented after their approval by Alderman Peal, Chairman of

Linkway Stores $2.73 Phillips Motor Co. $3.28; Will Meredith $1.25;Fayetteville Lbr &

Company $3.79: Alderman Bronson moved that these bills be allowed as approved and the
Clerk be instructed to issue warrants upon the proper funds in payment of same, second
by Alderman Shook, and carried unanimously.
A bill was presented from Washington Transfer for $234.33Xhauling ,jail and City Hall
equipment from Kansas City, Imo. Alderman Sanders moved t11at this bill be allowed,
seconded by Alderman Ucker and received the unanimous vote of the Council.
A request from. -IV. S.. Duggan to cut pavement on Ozark Ave., to make Water Connection
at S. A. E. fraternity house was presented. Alderman Sanders moved that this permit
-be granted under supervision of City Engineer, seconded by Alderman Hosford and
carried unanimously.
A request was read from Mrs. Louis&Mitchell, 416 North College, to cut curb to repair
sidewalk and drive-in. Alderman Gregory moved that this permit be granted under
supervision of City Engineer, seconded by Alderman Bronson, arra carried unanimously.
It was brought to the attention of the Council that the Street truck needed new tires:
Alderman Bronson moved that the Street Committee be authorized to purchase tires for
this truck, seconded by Alderman Hosford, and carried unanimously.
Mrs. C. K. McClelland,. -Mrs Miriam Vincenheller, and Mrs J. C. Futrall, representing

ivic the Women's Civip, Club, appeared before the Council, regarding the purchase of the
squest Stone property, West Uenter Street for the City Library, asking a payment of $50. per
50. for month instead of'the $25.00 now paid, stating that they could close the deal if they
ibrary were assured of this payment from the City. After discussion,Alderman Carter moved
onthly that the Finance Committee confer with the Women's Civic Club regarding the matter,
aymenta seconded by Alderman Ucker, and upon the question being put before the Council,
resulted in the following vote: Ayes: Aldermen Bronson, Carter, Gregory,Hosford,
Sanders, Ucker and Shook. Nays: Alderman Peal. The Mayor declared the motion carried
as there were seven Ayes and one Nay.

upon the motion being placed before the Council resulted in a unanimous vote in favor

Insur- Alderman Hosford, Chairman oft ommittee appointed to investigate insurance carried by
ice Com the City reported as follows: The only part %his body has jurisdiction over are the
eporte items directly passed on by the Council. This Committee recommmends that $20,000.
insurance.be carried on the City Hall and that it be divided as follows:

The City will then be paying insurance premiums per year as follows:

Cravens & Company 153.45
Renner -Carmichael Inc. 51.15
Aldern.an Hosford moved that the Committee's report be adopted, seconded by Alderman
Carter, and upon the question being put before the Council resulted in the following
vote: Ayes: Carter, Gregory, Hosford, Peal, Sanders, Shook and Ucker. Nays: Alderman
Bronson. The Mayor declared the motion carried as there were seven Ayes and one Nay.

Alderman Gregory introduced the following resolution:

bite WHEREAS, It has been brought to the at ention of the City Council of the City of
Shan Fayetteville, Arkansas, that a business located on the South side of Mountain Street
Cafe: and known as the White Swan Cafe, is being operated in such a m anner that it has
become a public nuisance, and
WHEREAS, The operation of said business has become a menace to public health, morals
and safety.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas
that the City Attorney take such steps as maybe necessary in a Court of competent
jurisdiction, to the end that said White Swan Cafe located at No.11 Vast Mountain st,
be declared a public nuisance, and as such abated.
Alderman Peal moved that this Resolution be adopted, seconded by Alderman Shook, and
upon the question being put before the Council resulted'in'a unahimofis vote in favor
of same.
