Fayetteville City Council met in regular session Monday June 1st, 1936 8: P M.
Present: Mayor A. D. McAllister, City Attorney Price Dickson, City Engineer C. E. Pierce.
Earl Hand Acting Chief of Police. Aldermen: Bronson, Carter, Gregory, Hosford,
Peal, Sanders, Shook and Ucker. Absent: City Clerk Otoe Phillips; Alderman B B
Bronson acting as clerk of the session.
Minutes of the regular meeting Monday May 25th, 1936 were read and approved.
Bills: The following bills were presented after their approval by Alderman Peal, Chairman of
the Auditing Committee:Fayetteville Printing Co. $16.1B;Arkansas Western Gas Co. $1.61;
Fred Eden $5.00; Blair Stationers $3.10; J. Shelley $25.00,J Shelley $28.75; Herbert
Lewis Sheriff $151.00;Thomas & Son 05.90; S• E. Evans Contractor $5.69; Joe Baker $4.00;
George Kennell $1.50; Jim Gibson $12.00; A. F. Shumate $18.00• Ben Porter 4pl5.00;

$p7.42 ; Fayetteville Machine & Tool Go $y2.00. Alderman Ucker moved that these bills
be allowed as approved, and the Clerk instructed to issue Warrants upon the proper funds
in payment of same, seconded by Alderman Gregory and carried unanimously.
Rev Sam Yancy appeared before the Council asking for aid in repairing Mt Sequoyah roa .
The matter was referred to the Street Committee.
A request was read from J W Cohea,asking permission to cut pavement on Highland Ave.,
Block 10 County Court, south part of the West 2 lot 1 for the purpose of making sewer
and water connection. Also a request from Smelser & Eason for permission to cut curb
Highway #71 at the intersection of Highways #71 and #62 subject to issuance of Build
Permit for filling station proposed to be erected on this property. Alderman Carter
moved that these permits be granted to be done under supervision of City Engineer,
seconded by Alderman Gregory, and carried unanimously.
The question was presented of the amount of money to be paid Miss Lbla Ellis School
.Street, covering damage to sidewalk in recent changing of the grade of South School
Street Pading,Block 34 Original Town. After discussion, Alderman Sanders moved that
ss Ellis be allowed $30.00 on replacing sidewalk, seconded by Alde(m an Ucker, and carri
unanimously.
Acting Chief of Police Earl Hand reported that it would cost the City $4.50 per day o
twentyfour hours for guards at'the Centennial Museum. Alderman Sanders moved that
the matter of hiring guards for the Museum be referred to the Mayor and Finance Commi
tee, with power to act; seconded by Alderman Bronson and carried unanimously.
Alderman Sanders moved that the price of Truck Tag issued to Mr Simpson,living out of
town, be refunded to him, seconded by Alderman Ucker, and unanimously passed by the
Council.

Alderman Sanders moved that the weekly salaries of Ben Porter and A. F. Shumate, work
on Maintenance and Cleaning Streets be raisedto $17.50 and $20.00 respectively, secon
by Alderman Peal, and carried unanimously.
Super$e- Price Dickson, City Attorney, presented the matter of filing supersedeas bond in the
dias Bond:case of the Civil Service Commission vs Neal Cruse, and the necessity of.having a
surety bond for said suuperseddats; bond. Alderman Sanders moved that the Mayor and Cit
-Cruse l- Clerk be authorized tto,�appjy to a qualified corporate surety company and to indemnify
such surety company on -behalf of the City for such superaed'eas: bond as might be
required of the Civil Service Commission and the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas,to
permit an appeal to the Supreme Court of the State of Arkansas in the case of the
Civil Service Commission of the City of Fayetteville vs Neal Cruse now pending in
Washington Circuit Court. This motion was seconded by Alderman Hosford and passed
unanimously by the Council.
There being no further business, Alderman Carter moved to adjourn, seconded by Alderm+
Hosford, and carried unanimously.
