Fayetteville City. Council met in regular session Monday May.7th, 1934.

Minutes .of the regular meeting heldoApril 30th were read an approved.
Bills The following bills were presented after their approval by Alderman Peal, Chairman
of the auditing committee; Arkansas Western Gas Co. $2.59, Goss Rogers 50d

allowed as approved and that the Clerk be instructed to draw warrants for the same
upon the proper funds. The motion was seconded by Alderman Carter and was carried
unanimously.
The investigations of the "irport Committee w4ee carried over until the next meeting,
of the Council.
The City Council authorized the Clerk to pay to Mrs. Lighton the sum of 16.00
this month, and five dollars monthly there after for the Arkansas Avenue work.
M:r:.Jeffries appeared before the Council concerning a Marble game.
Alderman McAllister made a motion seconded by Alderman Stanford that the City
Attorney draw up an ordinance concerning this and designating the license fees to
he collected. The motion carried unanimously.
Adjournec No further business Alderman.Sanders made the motion that the Council adjourn,
the motion was seconded by Alderman Stanford and received the entire vote of the
Council. The Mayo ,y3'eclared the Council adjourned.

Gregory moved that the bills be allowed as approved and that the "].erk he instructed

Grade Crossing Hazardous and to require motor vehicle drivers to Stop, look and
listen before crossing same: to declare and mereency and for all other related
purposes." The ordinance was read the first-time in its entirety by the '41erk.
Alderman Bynum moved that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be placed on its
second reading. Alderman Peal seconded the motion which was carried unanimously by the
Council. And the Clerk read the ordinance the second time. Alderman Peal made the
motion that the rules be Luther suspended and the ordinance be placed on Its third and
final reading. Alderman Stanford seconded the motion which was carried unanimously.
The Clerk read the ordinance the third and final time. The Ma vor put the question
`Shall the ordinance pass." On the Clerks calling the roll the following vote resulted
Ayes Bynum, Gregory, McAllister, Peal, Shook, Stanford. Absent and not voting
Alderman Carter and Sanders. The Mayor declared the ordinance passed as there was
6 Aves and no Nays.
The emergency clause carried unaimously.

An Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance to provide for an Fxtension of North St.,
Fayetteville, Arkanasa, as a Public treet "cross the right of way and Tracks of
St Louis -"an rrancisco Railway at Crade: to Declare Such Grade Crossing, Hazardous and
to require motor vehicle drivers to stop, look and listen Before Crossing, dame: to
Declare a.idEmsrgency and for all Other related Purposes."
Be it ordtined by the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas:
Section 1. 'It is hereby provided that North 6treet, in the City of Fayetteville,
Arkansas, shall be constructed, extended and maintained from its Present terminus over
and across the right of way and railraod tracks now existing, or hereafter installed,
of the St. Louis -San Francisco Railway, at a grade crossing, and said street and
grade crossing shall he a public street, subject to all laws and ordinances relating
to public streets in said "ity of Fayetteville.
Section 2. The said grade crossing of said North Street over and across said rail
road tracks is here by declared to he a hazardous crossing, and it shall be. unlawful for
anv driver to drive or propel anv automobile, automobile truck, or other motor driven
vehicle upon either of said railroad tracks without first bringing said motor vehicle
to a full stop at a distance of not less than ten feet nor more than fifty feet
fm m the nearest track, and teen and there looking and listening for approaching-
engine, train or cars.
Section 3. Any persn, owner or driver of any automobile, truck, motorcycle or other
motor driven vehicle violating this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor
and upon conviction shall be .fined in any sum not less than N5.00 nor more than _
$25.00,
Section 4. Whereas, motor vehicle traffic has been constantly increasing, and accidents
to persons and property at grade crossings of railraods are numerous, and proper care
•hy such drivers of motor vehicles is essential to the existence of safetyan emergency i
Is hereby declared, and this, ordinance shall he in force 'And effect from the date of
its passage.

Vet Alderman Gregory made the motion seconded by Alderman Peal that the Veterinarian
Retort reports as read before the Council be received and filed the motion carried
unanimously.
Ad,jourriedNo futher business Alderman Bynum made the motion that the Council adio•.lrn., the
otion was seconded by Alderman Peal and received the entire vote of the /Council.
The Mayor declared the Council adjourned.

Wilson Motor 'ompanp ask permission to cut the curb at the Masonic Temple on west
Mountain street. Alderman Stanford made the motion seconded by Alderman Bynum
that this be grarted the same to be under the sPpervision�.of. the(,City Engineer.
The motion was carried unanimously.
The ordinance introduced relative to the license fees on slot machines
was carried over until the next meeting.

Chief of Police Neal Cruse appeared before the Council asking that sights to direct
traffic be Placed on the streets. By motion of Alderman Bynum Seconded by Alderman

No further husiness Alderman McAllister made the motion seconded by Alderman Peal
that the Council •td.journ the motion passed unanimously and the Mayor declared the
Council urned
