HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-09-25 Minutes91 The protest of W. S..Pollard on assessments in Plater Imp. Dist. No. 3 was carried over. The City Attorney reported his findings as to condemnation of No. 201 W. Lafayette as follows: the property is not in the Fire. Zone but the Fire. Chief might investigate as to fire hazard: if a public nuisance, the Board of Health would have ,jurisdiction; if a house of ill fame, the Police Dept. would have charge. Alderman Gregory moved that the matter be referred to the Health Officer. Alderman Harding seconded the motion, which received the entire vote of the Council. Report: The Committee for investigating ways and means for obtaining Government aid in the erection of a Municipal building reported as follows; that they had met with Vincent Ni. Miles, Regional Director, and find that application must be in Washington before December 2nth, 1933, and that municipal building projects are among those favored by the R. F. C. The Committee also recommended that the City Engineer and the City Clerk prepare a statement as to outstanding obligations of the City, and the likelihood of being ahle to meet 'other obligations that might he assumed. The recommendation was put in the form of a motion and passed unanimously. Geo. A. Hurst appeared before the Council KXYAM asking that a Board of Commissioners to handle Fire and Police Departments according to Act 28 of the 1933 Assembly of Ark- ansas be appointed. The Mayor requested the City Attorney to get an or'nion from the Attorney General as to the legality of the referendum petition filed with the City Clerk relative to the above matter. The matter of checks from wholesale distributors of beer being held by the City Collec for was brought up. Alderman Gregory made a motion that the Clerk be instructed to no- tify the wholesale dealers that their checks would be cashed and perr..i.ts issued on Sept. 30th, 1933. This motion was seconded by Alderman Sanders and re(:eived the entire vote of the Council. Alderman Wages moved that the Council adjourn. Ratliff, Chief of Police Neal Cruse, Aldermen Bynum, Gregory, Hardinc, Peal, Sanders, Stanford, and Wages. Absent; Alderman Carter. Minutes of the Regular meeting as held September 18th, 1933, were read and approved. Bills: The followign bills were Presented after their approval by Aldarman Peal, Chairman of the Auditing, Committee: S. W. Gas & Electric Co. j$314,10, C. H. Bynum x$6.00, Ben Porter ,`10.0n, Guy Mitchell Y$4.25, Bossemeyer & McBride $4.50, A. F. Shumate j$18.00, Bosse- meyer At McBride $4.25. No. 1, Duncan St. Imp, Dist, No. 3` and Water Imp. Dist. No. 3 were presented. By motion of Alderman Sanders seconded by Alderman Peal and duly passed by the Council the assessments were ordered received and filed. Interest: The Clerk called the attention of the Council to the fact that interest on overdrafts due the First XXXX XI National Bank to Sept. 19th amounted to ;$1006.20. Alderman Wages made a motion that the Clerk be instructed to draw a warrant for this amount payable to the First National Bank, Alderman Harding seconded the motion, which received the unanimous vote of the Council.
