HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-07-24 MinutesFayetteville City Council met in regul m session 10onday, July 17, 1933. Maymr T. S. Tribble being absent on account of illness, Alderman Bynum made a motion which was seconded by Alderman Peal, that Alderma^ J. F. Stanford be elected Mayor Pro Tem. This motion was duly passed by the Council and Alderman Stanford was seated as Mayor Pro Tem. Present: City Clerk Otoe Phillips, City Attorney Virgil Ramsey, Alderman Bynum, Carter, Greg- ory, Harding, Peal, Stanford and Wa1;es. Absent: Mayor Tribble and Alderman Sanders. Minutes of the_reGular meetiI held July 10th, 1.933, were read and approved. Bills for the week were carried over till next meeting. P1�,�7',inR Insnecto The application of A. C. Bond for the office of Plumbing Inspector was presented. After discussion Alderman Hardin maple a motion that A. C. Bond he appointed Plumbing Inspector to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Jas Dinwiddie. This mo- tion was seconded by Alderman Carter and received t'''re entire vote of the Council. The proposed electrical ordinance was carried over. The privilege tax ordinance which was on its secord reading was hroupbt un for di's- cussion. Aldn. man Harding made a motion that this matter be postponed indefinitely and the protests and petitions be received and filed. Alderman Peal seconded the mo- tion which carried bnar.imously. Machine Gun, Policeman D. A. Burson appeared before tho Council presenting to the City of Fayette- ville a Thompson sub -machine gun No. 8108, U. S. .Army 1928 model, the purci,ase of which was made possible by contributions from business men and others. Alderman Greg- ory made a motion that the pun he accepted, and a vote of thanks be extended to the contributors, to 1). A. Burson, and to the other members of the Police Department. Alderman 11lages seconded the motion which received the entire vote of the.. Council. A motion to adjourn made bir Alderman Carter and seconded by Alderman Bvnum was duly passed by the Council and the Mayor declared the Coundil adjourned. Minutes of the regular meeting held July 17th, 19:5:5, were rent' and approved. Hills: The following bills were nresented after their arproval by Alderman Peal, Chairman of the Auditing Committee: S. Shumate, $�36.00. Alderman Hnrding, made n motion seconded by Alderman Rynum that the hills be allowed as approved and th&.'Clerk +e instructed to draw warrants for same upon the proper funds. This motion req.ASved the unanimous vote of the Council and the Mayor so declared. The pronos^d electrical ordinance was carried over. Applications to cut the curb on Hi.ghlerd Avenu^ were presentnd by hrs. T. C. Skaggs and Mir. Tom Logan, Mr. Logan statinv that the prop^rty in question belorc^d to him. By motion of Alderman Gregory seconded by Al.derrian Harding and duly passed by the Council, the matter was referred to the City Engineer for settlement as to the prop- er or correct party to make application for such permit. ^. 11. Ratliff 11avor Tribble stated to the Council that, due to the untimely death of C. W. Appleby, Annointe a vacancy existed in the zoard of B'•anar=ers of the Cit.v Mater Plant, and sumrzested the appointment of F. M. Ratliff to fill the vacancy. This motion was s^Cord.^d by Alderman Stan- ford and received the entire vote of the Council.
