HomeMy WebLinkAbout1932-09-24 MinutesElection{ The election to fill the vacancy created in the office of Police Judge coming hefo of Police the Council, Alderman Sanders moved that the Council go into an Executive session, whi Judge was seconded by Alderman Stanford. Upon the question being put before the Council, It ceived their unanimous vote, and the Mayor declared the Council in Executive session. The Clerk then read the applications filed in his office as follows: C. T. Harding, R. P. Nifong, ". 11, Fishhack, John W. Baxter, Clem Pearson, Fi, A. Gregg, and C. 0. Hansard. The Council accordingly proceeded to ballot for Police Judge, with the final ballot as follows: for R. F. Nifong, 4; for Clem Pearson, 3; whereupon the Mayor declared R. P. Nifong elected as Police Judge until the next annual election. Alderman Barr made a motion that was seconded by Alderman Carter that the Council adjourn. Upon the question being pr;t before the Council, it received their unani- mous vote and the Mayor declared the Council as adjourned. Minutes of the regular meetinp, as held Sept. 19th 1932, were reed and approved by the unanimous vote of the Council. Bills: I The following_ }ills were presented after their anprov•il by Alderman_ Barr, chairman of the Auditing Committee, whereupon Alderman Harding made a motion seconded by Alderman Carter, that the bills be allowed as approved and the Clerk he instructed to draw warrants for same upon the proper funds. Upon the question being put before NJ the Council it received their unanimous vote and the Mayor so declared and in- s.tructed the Clerk: R. Hatfield $6.25, Ben Porter $112.50, Gray E. Carlisle $112.50, A. F. Shumate A30.nn. Revortsd Financial rerorts of University Imp. Dist. No. 1 and Mont Nord Imp. Dist. No. 1 were read by the Clerk. After discussion a motion w.,is made by Alderman Grepory and seconded by Alderman Wages that the Clerk notify all Commissioners of Ir:- provement Districts that vouchers for all monies paid out must be filed Lith their financial statements. Upon the motion being put before the Council it received their unanimous vote and the Mayor so dFiclared and instructed the Clerk. inancei: A proposed ordinance relative to the construction and operation of a fire and burglar alarm system by Faus Gary was read by the Clerl:. A motion was made by Alderman Wages and seconded by Alderman Carter that this be. referred to the Ord- inance Committee and the City Attorney. The question was put before the Council with the following results; Ayes. Barr, Carter, Gregory, Harding, & Sanders; Nays, Bynum, Stanford, & VJapes. As the vote was 5 ayes and 3 nays the Mayor declared the Council in executs_ve ses.^,i.on. After informal discussion a motion was made by Alderman Wages and seconded by Alderman 29. Carter that the Mayor appoint a. Committee to confer with the Chamber of Commerce and the Water Commissioners relative to amounts due the Western Methodist Assembly and Ely -Walker Dry Goods Co. and to investigate the contracts made with them. This motion received the unanimous vote of the Council. The Mayor appointed the Finance Committee composed of Alderman Barr, Gregory, & Wages; and City Attorney V. James Ptak, and City Engineer h. 6I. Ratliff to make the necessary investigations. Alderman Harding made a motion that the Council adjourn, which was seconded by Alderman B7,num. The motion received the unanimous vote of the Council and the Mayor declared the Council as adjourned. This motion received the unanimous vote of the Council and the Mavor so de- clared. Assessment The re -assessment of Water Imp. Dist. No. 2 was presented. Motion was made V'atpr Inp. ist. This motion received the unanimous vote of the Council and the Mayor so declared and instructed the Clerk.
