PRESENT:iIna-yor T.S.Tribbie,City Clerk Wm.F.Dunn,City Attorney V.James Ptak,Chief of Police Neal Cruse, Alderman Barr,Bynum,Harding,Pearson,Sanderd,Scott,Stanford,& Wages, 1 MINUTES'of regular meeting of the City Council held on August 10th,1931 were read and approved by the i unaminous vote of the Council. BILLS: I The following bills were presented after being approved by the Chairman of the AuditiAg i Committee Alderman Roy Scott,amd a motion was made by Alderman Harding that the bills be i allowed and the Clerk draw warrants upon the proper funds for the payment of the same.This it i was seconded by Alderman Sanders.Upon the question being put before the Council it carried i unaminously and was so ordered by the Iviayor. REPORTS:' The Street Sweeper Shumate & Vlillams reported 176 blocks of paved streets cleaned during I ;the past week.A motion made by Alderman Pearson seconded by Alderman Stanford that the report he received and the Clerk file the same in its proper mannner.Upon the question being put by the Mayor,it carried unaminously and was so ordered by the Mayor. PFTETION:A request was read from Ia1r.A.'.Upton on behalf of the Workers Welfare Association asking tb4t they be given preference in work on the dam when work was stabted.A motion was made by i I Alderman Harding that this request be given to the Water Commission and that the Council reccommend that the Workers Welfare Association members be given preference in the work as I far as they deemed it practical. This was seconded by Alderman Vlages.Upon the question being) put it carried unaminously and the Clerk was instructed by the Mayor to Carry out this motion SAM DOWELL appevred before the Council and asked for a' permit to install two curb pumps in front of � i his filling station on Cemetary Street.A motion was made by Alderman Sanders that this permit Abe grented.Alderman Wages seconded the motion.Upon the question being put it carried 'unaminously and was so declared by the Mayor, W ILL01? The committee as composed of the Finiance Committee and the Commissioners of Willow Avenue I Improvement reported their findings of their meeting and after a general discussion a motion was made by Alderman Scott that the report of this committee be not accepted.This was seconded by Alderman Stanford.Upon thw question being put it received the following vote.Ayes Barr, Bynum,Pearson,Sanders,Scott,Stanford.,V,Iages.Piays Alderman Harding.The Iviayor declared the motion as carried as the vote stood Ayes 7 Nays 1. ,Alderman Pearson made a motion that the matter of Willow Avenue Improvement District be 4 deferred untiGfter the return of the City Engineer E,M.Ratliff.This was seconded by Alderman I Harding. Upon the question being put it received the following vote Ayes Alderman Barr, Harding,Pearson.NaysByhum,Sanders,Scott,Stanford,VFages.The Mayor declared the motion as lost as the vote stood Ayes 3 Nays.5. CITY ATTORNEY; V.James Ptak appeared before the Council and stated that as the Iviayor and Eldnrmen had 'been made defendents in the case of Ivlrs.Glass &al. against Magnolia Petroleum Co.& al. that 'in order to save costs and time taht he be allowed to enter appearance for them before the Chancery Court. A motion was made by Alderman Harding and seconded by Alderman Barr that th City attorney be given this privilage.Upon the question being put before the Council it Peee received the flmirL&a6ng vote of the Council.Ayes Barr,Bynum,Harding,Pearson,Sanders,Stanford, i& 17ages. Nays Alderman Scott. The 1.1ayor declared the motion as carried as it received 7 Ayes land 1 Nay. RIEFF: A motion was made by Alderman Stanfoald and seconded by Alderman Pearson that the Board of Health proceed with the..enforcement of sewer.connections on.all delinquents.Thdse connection to be made under the supervision of the City Engineer E.M.Ratliff.Upon the question being ' erc_. put it received the unaminous vote of the Couenil.The Iviayor tl .� :.:-e City Attor�ne w& power an4-14trtrnr to proceed with the Health Board.directing the enforcementff.A^µ � ,sem / A r quest for the erection of a private curb pump by,Mr.Frank Rieff of the Citizens Laundry same to be erected on Scott Street. After much Discussion a motion was made by Alderman Harding and seconded by Alderman Barr that the Street Committee investigate this request aid report back to the Council at its next meeting, T6t.,t��+tsrett�tc}��t Say x3ck�rmn Alderman.Pearson then made a motion that the Street Commitbeet" equested also to investigate" t the culvert a3se at the same time on Campbell Street.This was seconded by Alderman Stanford. Upon the question being .put,it carried unaminously and the Street.Committee was instructed ly the Mayor. The Street Committee reported the condition as found on the two streets that Mr.A.L.TreIlt requested the City to work.A motion was made by Alderman Wages seconded by Alderman Sanders that the Clerk be instructed to see and tell Mr.Trent that if he would have the sewar line lowerdd and 3 new bridges put in that the City would grade the streets in question. Upon the question being put,it carried unaminously. The IrIayor instructed the Clerk. Upon the question aras6ing that a light should be -put on the east side in front of the Washington School and as the quota for lights was already used,The Mayor requested the Chairman of the Light Committee Alderman Harding together with Alderman Barr to see IvIr.Asbury,Manager of the light Co and see if some arrangement might be perfected to make it possible to obtain th light. Alderman Perason made a motion that the Council Adjourn.This was seconded by Alderman Barr. This motion carried unaminously and the Council was declared adjourned by the Mayor. Attest: City Clerk.
