I RiPORTS: The weekly report of the Street Cleaner showing 174 blocks cleaned during the week, the monthly reports of the City Purchasing .igent,City Collector, City Clerk, Fire Chief and the Police Judge were presented and on motion were ordered received and filed. GOV7RNI97'NT The matter of securing U.S.aid for the paving of Government Avenue,as previously suggested AV7NUT': j by Dr. H.D.1"ood was considered. It was developed that Congressman Ti.lman had attempted to secure such aid at a time when the street belonged to the Government,without success:which fact,t:ogether with the information that there was some opposition from a section of the citizens of Fayetteville,an8 the fact that the street has been deeded to the City by the U.S.tended,in the opinion of members of the Cpuncil to render the present an inopportune time for making the application for such assistance. No definite action was had . ACTING The time for which C.T.Keller had been elected Acting Police Judge having expired, PIpLICE JUD(=F: Alderman. Pearson moved that the Council proceed to the election of some Justice of the Peac I to serve as Acting Police Judge during the disability of 17.H.Rollins,the present incumbent, at a salary of $'50.00 per month. Alderman Stephens seconded the motion which received the I following vote;ayes Aldermen Fuller, Harding, Rearsom, ScItt, Stanford, Stephhns; nays none absent and not voting Ald rman Bynum and 1'lages,and was .declared passed by the Mayor. ;LECTION: The Council accordingly proceed to ballot for Acting Police Judge with the followi result;- for J.T.Gage 4 votes; for C.T.Keller 2 votes,whereupon the mayor declared J.T.Gage I elected Act:inF Police Judge. iIIICTiIA71) The matter of making changes and improvements on Highland Avenue 'long the East aSHINGTON side of the Vlashington School lot was presented by Mr Dinwiddie. After .some discussion,the SCHOOL: City Engineer was directed to prepare an estimate of the cost to the City of making the changes suggested. This action was had on motion by Alderman Harding, seconded by Alderman Pearson and duly passed. REPAIR "ALK alderman Scott ilresented a resolution to order monstruction and repair of the side ,valk along Lots 12,13,14 and 15, Block 30,on the west side of South Fast Street,and moved its adoption. This motion was seconded by Alderman Stanford and received the following vote ayes Aldermen Fuller, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Stephens; naps noes; absent and no voting Aldermen Bynum, and 1:7ages. The Mayor declared the motion passed •ind the resolution I adopted. The Clerk presented a verbal report for the Engineer to the effect that because of , weather conditions and duties connected with the Airport,he had been unable to make the investigation necessary for a report on the Highland Stenue project. RESIGNATIONS: MASSIE, L.A.BT? J17 SK Com'r #42. The City Clerk,J.C.Massie presented his fesignation from the office of Clerk,effectiv I.I on Monday after the first Tuesday in April,1931;whereupon Alderman Harding moved that the ' same be accepted as requested,This motion was seconded by Alderman Fuller and received the unanimous vote of the Council,and was declared passed by the Mayor. L.A.Brown presented his resignation from the office of Commissioner of Paving i Improvement District Number 42. On motion by Alderman Pearson,seconded by Alderman triages and) Passed by the unanimous vote of the Council,said resignation was accepted. N Alderman Pearson presented a resolution appointing JOhn 111. Skelton to be a member of the Board of Improvement of Paving Improvement District Number 42 in place of L.A.Brown, ' resigned, Aildo moved its 0000ptstat adoption. Alderman ,Mages seconded the motion to adopt which received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Bynum, Fuller, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Stephens, Wages; nays none, absent and not voting none.
