THE MINUTES of the meeting of August 5th, 1929 were read and approved. THE FOLLO{VING BILLS against the City,bearing the proper.vouchers and the approval of the Auditing Com -I Imittee,were allowed and ordered paid and the Clerk was directed to issue warrants for the (same on motion by Alderman Fuller, seconded -by Alderman Harding,passed by the unanimous vote ;of the Council and so declared by the Payor; Abshier-Bryan Motor Co. A45.65;Ben Porter $18.75; Central Auto Co., X1.50; J.E. Skelton p20.00; J.W. Shelley 1035.00•Elmer !Bier 10.50; Ralph Lehman 150.00; Democrat Pub, Co., X10.32; Harry E. The Engineer reported the grading of Maple street as not yet completed,and that Mr 7illah,the contractor requested a delay in the work -until such time as sufficient rain .d - shall fall to make the work practicable. On motion by Alderman Drake,seconded by Alderman ; Scott and duly passed, such extension of time was granted. Y: Mr J.H.McIlroy was present and reluested the Council to investigate the matter i of repairs on West Dickson;a turn -out on Buchannon and grading of Fairview.whereupon Alderman Harding Pftgke moved that the City Engineer,with the members of the Street Committee make such invesIti. gation,estimate the cost thereof and report same to the Council together with the proposition of the property owners interested as to the payment therefor. Alderman Drake seconded the motion which received the unanimous vote of the Council,and was declared passed by the Mayor'. The Mayor reported that the Commissioners of South School Avenue Improvement District Number One had requested the use of the City's repair crew and equipment for don1w doing some repair work on South School Avenue,and that they had $50.00 excess funds which could apply to the payment therefor;whereupon Alderman Drake moved that the request be granted so far as the $50.00 would defray the expense.Alderman Fuller seconded this motion which ceived the unanimous vote of the Council,and was declared passed by the Mayor. Tribble, Attorney Don Trumbo, Aldermen Bynum, Drake, Fuller, H arding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Stephens.. Absent: Engineer E.M. Ratliff and Clerk J.C. Massie. 1929 The minutes of the meeting of August 12/were read and approved. THE FOLLOWING BILLS AGAINST the City, bearing the proper lbouchers and the approval of the Auditing Committee, were allowed and ordered paid, and the Clerk was directed to is- J sue warrants for the same on motion by Alderman Harding, seconded by Alderman Drake, pas- sed by the unamimous vote of the members present and so declared by the Mayor: - Dave Lewis, 8.75;L.M. Ivey, $3.55; Washington Transfer Co., $6.14; J.W. Shelley, ,$42.50;. Elmer Weir, 7.00; Jack Tramble, $18.00; Ben Porter, $9.40; E I Shelleyos report of street cleaning wzx, showing 164 blocks cleaned, was presented, and, on motion, ordered filed. The following petition from residents of Buchanan Street was presented and read. 43f " To the Honorable Mayor and City Councilment-of Fayetteville, Ark, NI. ANNEX We the undersigned residents and property owners of Buchanan'Street, have been in - PETITION formed that there. is;a balance of about $200 1+ .over from the paving -of West Dixon. AS TO Street: We further$ -understand that the commissioners propose to spend this money on ISE OF the extreme. south end of'Buchanan Avenue and Fairview Street, with.only a small protion :CESS FUNDS of it applied on North' Buchanan. We understand that the people nearest Dixon Street paid the largest percent of this tax and we feel that since thisisthe case that this money spent on Buchanan Street should be spent. on North Buchanan Street. At the present time there is practically no traffic on South Buchanan Street and the North end of the street is used by all the -undersigned residents. We, therefore.. -ask that the Council instruct the. commissioners to spend this money where it will benefit the most people. A motion made by Alderman Harding, seconded by Alderman Stanford, to defer action on the petition until the next ENG'R'S regular meeting of the council, Mondaym August 26, 1929s in order that.the city attor- REPORT: ney might investigate the legality of tie petition, was passed by the unanimous vote of all present, and so declared by the Mayor.- nA report Brom E.M. Ratliff, city engineer; recommending that the cracks.in the pavement All;on Dickson Street, be repaired by the city force undergagreement with the Board of Com- missioners of the district;'and that the grade established on Ila ave. adjacent to the, Delta Beta house be left as it now is was read. Alderman Harding moved that the report I&ICV be accepted and filed and that the Delta Beta Sorority be allowed to lay a temporary sidewalk, not of concrete, at the present street level. This motibA was seconded by wo Alderman Drake,.passed by the unanimous vote of all present, and so declared by the Mayor. ' Alderman Pearson moved that the city att6rney look up all ordinances of record relating PARKING to the parking of cars on the city streets and.prepare the best possible ordinance to 'CARS FOR control the parking of cars for sale by dealers on the streets, and that the city attor- ney present this ordinance to the council at the next regular meeting, Monday, August 26 1 1929. Alderman Harding seconded this motion, which was passed by the unanimous vote of all pre -sent, and so declared by the Mayor. tIINAGE Interested parties asked relief from an overflow .of water on one side of an alley opening MIITTHAM of l^Jhitham St., parallel to Maple and Douglas Streets, and between them. Alderman Hard- 'REET: Ing moved that the city engineer investigate the condition of the alley and report at the next regular meeting of the council, Monday, Agust 26, 1929. Seconded by Alderman Drake , the motion was passed by the unanimous vote of all present, and so declared by the Mayor. Upon a request from interested parties,. Alderman Harding moved that a petition for the paving of Viatson Avenue from Saint Charles Street to blest Street be brought before the Council at its next regular meeting, Monday August 26, 1929. Seconded by Alderman Scott, this motion was passed by the unanimous vote of all present, and so declared by the Magor It aapearing that there are several buyers for the rock belonging to the city and at pre- sent on West Maple Street, and it also appearing that this rock is being hauled away without the premission of the proper city authorities, Alderman Pearson moved that the city receive bids of -the rock, reserving the.ri_ght.to keep.it if it appears desirable to do so. Alderman Stanford seconded this motion, it was passed by the undnimoustvote of all present, and declared gassed by the Mayor. Upon a motion made by Alderman Drake, seconded by Alderman Bynum, passed by the unani. mous mote of all present, and so declared by the Mayor -the following resolution was adopted, ordered spread of record, and published. V0 90 I�-,� LLj RESOLUTION /�Whereas, the citizens of the city of Fayetteville, Arkansas, have by their aid and co. operation made possible certain needed repairs on City Fire House Number One and have also been most generous: in contributing funds for suits for the ci£y firemen, the Mayor, Clerk, Attorney, Engineer, Members of the Council, and other city officials of the said city of Fayetteville, Arkansas, wish to express their appreciation of these public spirited acts.on the part of the said citizens. Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, that such Appreciation be embodied in this resolution, and that the same be spread of record. Alderman Harding moved, and Alderman Stevens seconded the motion, that the members of the Sewer Board be requested to meet with the Council at a special session, Thursday, August 22, 1929. This motion was passed by the unanimous vote of all present, and so declared by the Mayor. Upon motion b Alderman Stevens, seconded by Alderman Scott, the Council adjourned..
