CITY DIRECTORY 405 The injury done to the pavement on South School Street,by the passage of road working machinery over the same was reported to the Council by the Mayor. After some discussion, Alderman Drake moved that the City Engineer be directed to take the matter up with Mr Barry, local engineer for the State -Highway Department,and endeavor to reach an adjustment of the damage,and report bb the Council. The matter of controlling the drainage on West Street -near Dickson by means of a culvert t ,be constructed on the Right-of-way of the St.Louis-SanFransisco Railway in cooperation -lith .said Company,was,after consideration by the Council,referred >o the City Engineer,with Power to Ac.t,within a cost limit of $50.00 to the City. This action was had on motion by Alderman Harding, secconded by Alderman Drake and passed by the unanimous vote of the Council. An agent of the Company preparing a City Directory of Fayetteville, was present, and asked the Council to purchase for the use of City officials,copies of he same. On motiom by AlderRq man Scott, the Clerk was directed to sign an order for one copy at the price of X8.00. This motion was seconded by Alderman Drake and received the unanimous vote of the Council, and ideclared passed by the Mayor. No further business appearing Alderman Scott moved adjournment. I THE FOLLOWING BILLS against the City were allowed and ordered paid and the Clerk was directed to issue Request .i;JBaerg ,sidewalk warrants for the same on motion by Alderman Harding, seconded by Alderman Bynum, passed by I the unanimous vote of the Council and so declared by the Mayor; -John 'Zillah $4.00;J.W. Shelley $42.450;Arvel Hight x'6.00. A request from Prof.W.J. Baerg,asking that because of his intended absence from the City during the summer,a delay to Oct. 15th, 1929 be granted for the building of the sidewalk at his property on Maple,was pr sented. Alderman Drake moved that the request be granted,forl providX.8d that the necessary grading be done at this time, the reasons give Alderman Harding seconded the motion which received the unanimous vote of, the council and was declared passed by the Mayor. IRRPORT OF J. -W. Shelley presented his report showing 147 blocks of streets cleaned during the i JWShelle ; week ending May 18th, 1929. Alderman Harding moved the feport be received and filed which motion was duly passed. GOC)j ROApS The Good -roads committee of the Chamber of Commerce was present and stated certain: ICOM OF CC: lprojects for improveing approaches to the city,and tendered their assistance to the council 1 { in furtherance thereof. After some discussion,it was given as the purpose and intention of the' I council to attempt the organiza tion of an improvement District on South School Street to work in cooperation with the Highway Department in paving that street. The Committee from the Chamber of Commerce was requested to undertake the formation of similar districts on Wall Street and Government Avenue to perfect the conjunction with highway number 45. DEPOSITO On motion by Alderman Pearson,seconded by Ald rman Drake and duly passed, the Mc- IIlRoy Banking and Trust Company was declared the successful bidder for designation as cityy depository,at their bid of three (3%) percent on daily balances,and agreement to carry city warrants at six (60) percent. 4®G Engr. IT: Alderman Stanford moved that the contract for auditing the city books be awarddd to that certified accountant making the lowest bid,Alderman Harding seconded the motion which Deceived the following vote;- ayes Aldermen Bynum, Harding Stanford, S4phens; nays Alderman Drake, Fuller, Pearson, Scott. The Mayor cast the deciding vote for the affirmative;amd annou that if the council so desired he would pay the additional $50.00 which the audit would cost. CITY ENGR! F.M. Ratliff, city engineer called attention to the .fact that his contract as such ictal had expired, and announced himself an applicant for the position, and a renewal of contract, after discussion of the matter, Ald^rman Drake moved that action in the premis deferred to the next meeting. This motion rias duly passed. Alderman Drake moved that the City Clerk be, and he is hereby directed to notify Mr. to date A. Hurst to present to the City Council a report showing the amount of work done/on the est of the city ordinances of Fayetteville, said report to be made to the council at its to be held on the 27th day of May, 1929. Alderman Pearson seconded the motion which ceived the unanimous vote of the Council and was declared passed by the Mayor. No further business appearing Alderman Pearson moved that the council adjourn. Klderman Scott seconded the motion which received the unanimous vote of the Council. Approved; pyo„ — Mayor.
