Alderman Drake then moved that the council proceed to carry out the contract made with Geo. A. Hurst in April, 1921,and begin payment on the same by paying the sum of $100.0 I !in May, 1929, and the sum of $25.00 per mo th thereafter; full payme`tf the balance due at the time of completion to be�9hade on said completion provided said vork is completed by Jan uary, 1st, 1930. Alderman Stanford -seconded the motion which received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Bynum, Drake, Fuller, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Stephens; nays none, arra declared passed by the Mayor. Upton presented his resignation as Assessor for Water Improvement Dis trict Number Two which was duly accepted on motion by Alderman Pearson, seconded by Ald�rq:an Bynum and passed by the nanimous vote of the 8ouncil. 1. alto 0-N� Alderman,p resented the following resolution and moved its adoption.Alderma Bynum seconded the motion to adopt which received the following vote;ayes Aldermen Bynum, Drake, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Stephens; nays none, absent and not voting Alder, Fuller, and was declared adopted by the Mayor. Upton has resigned as a member of the Board of Assessors for !Mater Improvement District Number Two of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY ^1HE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF F1=TTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: SECTION ONE: That U.L. Smelser be and he is hereby appointed to he a member of the Board of Assessors for water Improvement District Number Two to fill.the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of A.B. Upton therefrom. Smith had sent a message that they wished to present a bid the following day, May 7th, and because of I this,the matter of employing an auditor was referred to the Finance Committee and the Mayor, with instructions to report at tree next meeting of the Council. This action was had on motion by Alderman Harding,seconded by Alderman Bynum and duly passed. I REPORT OFj The City ??ngineer presented his report as to the drainage troubles on East �NGIN77R IS TO Center Street,recommending as. the. less expensive method of controlling the flood waters,the T`RAINAGE: ' construction of a ditch from the Ozark theatre building to the SW corner of the lot on which the Fayetteville Machine Shop is located and building crossings for vehicles;also for the I correction of the drainage at the intersection of Dickson street with Highland,which he estim mated would cost ?$250.00 ,and at St. Charles Street which he estimated to sost $600,00, On motion the report was ordered received and filed. I TEXACO Mr H.G. Johnson requested permission to instal storage tanks for Texaco Products ,said TANKS: Tanks to be located on Lot 7, Plat of SE S11V Sec 9/16/30,just South of the Tanks of the Magnolia Petroleum Co, and on the Right of Way of the St. Louis -SanFransisco Railway Company: Alderman Drake, seconded by Alderman.Harding moved that the City Clerk be directed to advertize said application for one week. This motion was duly passed and so declared by the Mayor. ANCY:P?L At the request of Rev. Yancy, the Council granted a permit to his son,Tm. RIVRR'S ERMIT: L. Yancy,to drive a car on the streets of the City,subject to revocation by the Chief of Police. APLE STR. Bids for making the proposed excavaction and grading on West Maple Street weee opened XCAVATION: when it appeared that the bids received were, Henry Barton,90d peryard,building stone to DUMP - GROUND: STREET ICLTANING JWShe 11 e i belong to Barton, Mr Pierce 65� per .yard; JohnZillah 60¢ per ,yard. A1do,rman Pearson moved that the Mayor be authorized to contract with John Zillah for said work,within the limit of $375.00 expense to the City, -the City to retain any stone suitable for building culverts.Alderman Drake seconded the motion which received the unanimous vote of the members present,and was declared passed by the Mayor. On motion by Alderman Harding,seconded by Ald rman Drake and duly passed,the Mayor was request ted to investigate the pa:hter of procuring a suitable Dump ground for refues from the City and report as sonn as peacticable. Bids for the Cleaning of the City Str^ets were opened at this time, and itl appearing that the bid of J.17. Shelley was the lowest and best, the Mayor was authorized to enter into a contract with said lit I Shetley for a period of one year for said work. The contract to be so conditioned that the said Shelley is to operate the street sweeper, I and do the other cleaning in a satisfactory manner for a weekly salary of 4$42.50,to be paid each week.The said Shelley to make weekly reports showing the number of blocks swept and cleaned,and the location of the same VORTH COL., The matter of drainage on the North extension of College Avenue having been presented by I �RAINAGE: Mr I.I.I.
