Alderman Harding then moved that the Rules be suspended and i.he ordinance placed on its se-cond reading. This motion was seconded by Alderman Fuller and received toe following vote; ayes Aldermen Bynum, Drakeg( Fuller, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanfol nays none. The Mayor declared the motion Wy passed. The Ordinance was read the second time. ,Alderman Pearson then introduced"an ordinance granting to the Arkansas Gas service Company, a Deleware Corporation, its successors and assigns, rpermission to erect, install, construct, re-construct,repair, own, operate, maintain,manage and control a gas plant with the incorporated limits of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and/or a gas distribution system consisting of pipes, conduits and other fixtures in, under,over, alon g and across the a-treets,lanes, avenues, sidewalks, alleys, bridges and public grounds of said City of Fayetteville, Arkansas,for the purpose of furnishing gas for lights, heat and power purposes to said City of Fayetteville, Arkansas,and to its inhabitants for a period of Twenty-five 0 years2 which was read the First time. Alderman Harding then moved that the Rules be suspe and the ordinance placed on its second reading. Ald rman Pearson seconded the motion which received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Bynum, Drake, Fuller, Hardcbnf, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Step}jens; nays none. The Mayor declared the motion passed . The Ordinance was r the second time. Alderman Pearson then moved that the three hereinbefore mentioned ordinances be referred to the Ordinance Committee, with the instruction that said Committee prepare such ammendments to each of said ordinances as to them seem desireable; confer with the appli- cants with reference thereto, and with the City Attorney, and report back to the Council at a meeting to be called for the purpose of hearing said report. This motion was seconded by Alderman Harding and received the unanimous vote of the Council. The Mayor decl ared the motion passed. S of the meeting of April 15th2 1929 were read and approvad. f Dave Condra, for street cleaning for the previous week was presented and on motion by Alderman Drake, seconded by Alderman Bynum, passed by the unanimous vote of the Council and so declared by the Mayor,was allowed and ordered paid and the Clekk was directed to issue a warrant for the same;(amount $36.00). FIRE HYDRANT The matter of authorizing the Mayor to sign a contract with the St.Louis-SanFran- CONTRACT I. FRISCO: sisco Railway Company for the location of a Fire Hydrant on the right of way of said Company coming up for discussion, Alderman Harding introduced an ordinance providing such authoriza tion, which was read the first time. Aldi=rman Harding then moved that the Rulee be suspende and the ordinance placed om its second reading. This motion was seconded by Alderman Fuller and received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Bynum, Drake, Fuller, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Stephens; nays none. The Mayor declared the motion passed. The Ordinance 39` was read the second time. Alderman Pearson then moved that the Rules be further suspended a ordinance•placed on its third reading and final passage. This motion was seconded by Alder- man Scott and received the following votel ayes Aldermen Bynum, Drake, Fuller, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stahford ,, Stephens; nays none. The Mayor declared the motion passed. The ordinance was read the third time. LOUIS-SANFRANSISCO RAILWAY COMPANY AND THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS, BE IT ORDAINrD BY THF: CITY COUNCIL OF THE CTTY OF FAYETTEVILLE,ARKANSAS: SECTION ONE: That the 'Mayor of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to sign a contract with the St.Louis?SanFransisco Railway Company providing for t laying of a Six Inch (6 inch) water pipe line at the following location,to-wit;- Aeginting at a point in the westerly right of nay line of the St.Louis-SanFransis- co Railway Company opposite so*t-lon'e station 3906 plus 47,which point is 40 feet southerly from the intersection of said right of way line with the westerly production of the North aline of Satterfield Street,Fayetteville, Washington County,Arka.nsas,thence extends easterly 40 feet to a Fire Hydrant." i ION TI70: That this ordinance be in force and effect from and after its passage,approval and publi- cation.. Wilson at Little Rock ILSON: The Mayor I' declared the motion lost for want of XPENSE 'during the recent session of the State Legislature in the interest of the University, and T L.R.: requested the City to assist in paying the same to the amount of one-half of said expense, After some discussion Alderman Drake moved that the sum of $155.88 be appropriated P --QUEST ITO CUT TRFFS: CLEAN-UP POLICE: I i out of the General Fund of the City to be used in paying one-half of said expense.This motion was seconded by Alderman Pearson. Alderman Fuller then moved to amend the motion by changing the sum to one-third of the said expense, and Alderman Bynum seconded the motion to amend. The Mayor called for the vote on the amendment which resulted as follows; ayes Aldermen Bynum, Fuller, Harding, Stanford; nays Aldermen Drake, Pearson, Scott and 'Stephens. The Mayor I' declared the motion lost for want of a majority. The vote on the original motion resulted as follows; ayes Aldermen vsk#91-i: Bynum, Drake, Fuller, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Step hens; nays none. The Mayor declared th i motion passed. A request from J.D. Wilson for permisson to cut two elm trees in front of his propert-t on Gregg Street was presented and on motion was granted. On motion the Street Cleaning Committee was authorized to employ trucks for hauling refusel I during Clean-up !geek, and was directed to instruct said haulers to charge 10� for hauling each sack,barrel or box of refuse, and to decline to haul if not paid. The Mayor reported that he had sworn in the following men as members of the Poilce Force;- Jim Lester, to be Night 1'latchman on Dickson Street; T.B. Turner, to be Special Police at Evergreen Cemetery and Neal Cruse as Patrolamn. Turner to serve without pay from the City. The Ordinance Committee made a partial report on the Gas Franchise situation and requested more time; which was granted. [ToaAlderman Drake moved that the Council adjourn to Wednesdy Night, aApr' 24th, %1911 at ,341 0M.
