Ratliff; i Aldermen Bynum, Drake, Fuller, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Stephens;. , ITHE READING of the minutes of the last mee ing was referred to the next regular mPetin. 1M ROLLINS The City Clerk reported that he had administered the oath of office to W.H. Rollins SWORN IN:1 as Police Judge on the 9th day of April, 1929. GAS FRAN- The Mayor ststed that the purpose -of -the meeting was to hear and condiser applicati CHISE: for gas franchise of the City of Fayettevmlle; and invited those present who desired to mak j any proposition looking thereto, to do so. Mr SYPE: Mr Sype spoke to the Council at some length but made no proposition. 0©aaPkf�fi#PP9 t'lhile wai#ing for the appearance of Mr C.O. Moore, The Clerk read the report of Mayor Rice of'Bentonville to the council of said City as to an investigating trip made to Stamford Texas, to investigate the workings of gas systems in several Texas towns, and the record and financial standing of C.O. Moore Also, Alderman J.F. Stanford who made the same trip made an oral report on the same matters. C.O.Moore; CO.Moore having arrived was requested to state anything he had to say to the Council, whereupon he requested that the ordinance prepared by him providing for a gas franchise be introduced and read, Alderman Drake thereupon introduced an ordinance providing for the grant- ing to the said C.O. Moore a franchise for installing a gas system in the City of Fayettevillq Arkansas, which was read the First time. Alderman Drake then moved that the Rules be suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading. This,motionewas seconded by Alderman Pearson ' and received the followmng vote; ayes Aldermen Bynum, Drake, Fuller, Harding, Peasson,Scott; Stanford, Stephens; nays none; absent and not voting none. The Mayor declared the motion passed. The ordinance was read the second time. Mr C.O. Moore then addressed the Council, ex- plaining parts of the ordinance, answering questions and producing evidence of his reliability After much discussion by members of the Council, questions by citizens and Council- men;and it appearing that final action wloud not be reached at the meeting, Alderman Drake moved that further consideration of the matter be deferred to the next regular meeting, to be held on the 15th day of April, 1929,at 7;30 P.M. ther��4nthe ordinance under consid- eration or any other would be taken up for final action. Alderman Stanford seconded the motion which received the following vote; ayes Aldarmen Bynum, Drake, Harding, Pearson, Sta ford, Stephens, nays Aldermen Fuller and Scott; absent and not voting none.
